Let's start with: Durbin's wife, Loretta Durbin was a lobbyist, and the Chicago Tribune reported in 2014 that some of her clients received federal funding promoted by Durbin. This included announcing awards to several clients of her firm, her firm getting a one-year contract with a housing nonprofit when Durbin supported the organization, a state university receiving funds via Durbin's earmark while his wife lobbied for it, and Durbin securing federal money for a public health nonprofit when his wife sought state support for it.
