New field evidence from the #Amazonforest reveals that native savannas are expanding at the heart of the system due to forest #wildfires (a thread, 1/10). Open access at https://t.co/sIVlUIupXO
Union Busting is Always Disgusting. Workers at @readingsbooks have fought for a fair deal for 5 years. It only took one meeting for Readings to target and intimidate members of the RAFFWU Bargaining Team. Now we #fightbackwithRAFFWU
@jewonthis Need some kind of chart to work out who’s involved in colonisation and who’s not. Wills - English, settler. Burke - Irish, not a settler. Barry Humphries- English descent, settler. Steve Irwin- Irish descent, not a settler.
Special Grand final episode of @WrongIslandPod coming out discussing AFL history and politics, as a taster here's a list of Victorian clubs, from most working class to most upper class:
1. Footscray. Working class but founded as Protestant British loyalists.
@AsFarce Yeah seems like it was a big deal, here's a link to Darren Arthur's thesis too, I found some more bits about religious fights. https://t.co/xl1opdyBY4
@AsFarce All that being said I'm still giving Footscray top billing as number one working class club, just with a bit of Britannia loving protestantism thrown in back in the early days.
@AsFarce Haha I'm not a Footscray expert but it seems that a few local writers think it was pretty protestant in 1880 - this is from a Masters thesis written by Darren Arthur at Victoria University.
@mattlandolfo@WrongIslandPod Interesting, then there’s the possibility of voting patterns and class composition not completely aligning, and also shifts in both factors over the last century since the foundation of each club.
