Capitalism exists in socialist economies, just in a smaller more regulated and controlled capacity. They can work together. Free market capitalism hasn’t been around since the 1800s.

For example, Medicaid for all is more socialist than social democracy as it is replacing the free market healthcare system, but most of the other reforms being proposed are more aligned with the social democracy than full on socialism
