Tippi Hedren was told the attic attack in The Birds (1963) would use mechanical birds. On the final day, Alfred Hitchcock ordered real birds to be thrown at her for hours, leaving her physically injured and emotionally traumatized.
Casino Royale (2006) The Madagascar foot chase is not only one of the best openings to a Bond film, but one of the best cinematic foot chases ever filmed. Thrilling and lightning paced, it's an amazing start to Daniel Craig's tenure as Bond
The famous crane shot in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Notorious” (1946). The shot starts high above a crowded ballroom and descends to a tight close-up of a tiny cellar key clutched in Ingrid Bergman’s hand. Hitchcock told Francois Truffaut that he employed macro-to-micro transition; the camera moves from a wide view of the party, representing the oblivious, unknowing world surrounding Bergman, to her tightly clenched fingers. It was done using an elevator crane and a manual focus pull to track the action smoothly across the descent, and remains as arresting now as it was then.
TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. (1985) is William Friedkin letting a crime thriller run on pure adrenaline. The movie is all heat, neon, synths and bad decisions, with Willem Dafoe and William Petersen matching its reckless energy.
A filthy, furious slice of ’80s cinema.
"The cold in Regan's bedroom is real. Friedkin built the set at Filmways Studios in New York as an actual walk-in freezer, with the room refrigerated well below freezing (the figure usually cited is around -10°F or colder). That's why you see the actors' breath in the exorcism scenes. No visual effect was needed, because the cold did the work.
The crew were bundled in parkas and gloves between takes, removing the cameras from the room immediately between takes, while the actors performed in thin clothing. Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Jason Miller, and Linda Blair all had to hold their performances together in a room built to be miserable. Friedkin was known for pushing realism and discomfort to get reactions."
Pierce Brosnan performed many of his own stunts in The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), including several scenes involving gliders and high speed driving. He wanted Thomas Crown's confidence and elegance to feel completely authentic.
