Most bad managers have no idea they are bad.
They generally believe they are doing what's right.
The challenge then, isn't showing people the "right" way to manage, but to make it ok to be wrong.

What if you approached him and asked him if you could both walk through the event and find ways to improve...if you can get him to come up with what to do better, before you say it, he will be even more likely to improve next time.
