I was considering submitting a paper to Nature Ecology and Evolution, then I saw that the open access fee was 12 THOUSAND dollars! What the actual crap!? I can do a lot of research for 12k. Charging authors 12 grand to publish THEIR OWN work is the craziest nonsense imaginable

@ZJAyres I came within microns of breaking a TEM once......broke several 10k ball mills in grad school and had to fix them. Tons of glassware.....several times for very silly reasons. Burned a vacuum pump because the sightglass was so dirty I couldnt tell there wasnt oil. Æ
