His name is Dan Hussey.

He’s one of the best assistant coaches around.

He’s one of the most loyal people you’ll ever meet.

And he’s one leader off the field who year in and year out quietly makes a large donation to help kids or adults he’s never met, in hopes of enhancing their lives.

Now it’s time to put Dan in the spotlight.

Many know of Dan, some don’t. For the past 20 years, he’s been helping the Fenwick basketball and soccer programs. The number of kids and families he’s impacted through one of the leading high schools in #Illinois is easily in the 1,000s.

Each spring and fall, student athletes taking part in the BODYARMOR Series donate a $1 or $2 to help others on Opening Day of the massive event. That money is pooled together, and student athletes work together off the field to make a special presentation to deliver a check and bring attention to a cause that needs support.

At times, it’s been to help women and children at a Chicago domestic abuse center or buy scooters for elementary children, which was the case this past fall.

Fenwick has been a part of the BODYARMOR Series for decades, but one thing that also has been a quiet consistent is the bi-annual $200 donation from Dan toward the causes.

The award-winning architect, who has taught architecture at the University of Notre Dame, Andrews University and Judson University, even helped out St. John of the Cross Parrish School in Western Springs for nine years as its athletic director.

Oh and he’s helped little league in different roles, served as a committee member with Hoops for Life, volunteered as a tutor for the Chicago Neighborhood Study Help Program and coached youth football.

Dan’s focus is about the kids, for the kids and will do anything to help kids.

Too many people like Dan never get the exposure, nor do they want it - but they deserve it.

There’s a lot of good each and every day in the world, and Dan is a prime example. #IHSA
