Since 1922 Frida Hartley Shelter has played a pivotal role in providing a safe haven for Abused, Raped & Homeless Women & their children in South Africa.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT! Around the world, too many women still die during pregnancy and childbirth, too many children lack access to essential health services, and too many adolescents are left behind by systems that fail to meet their needs.
PMNCH brings together governments, partners, health-care professionals, youth and advocates to help change this reality through collective action, stronger policies and greater accountability for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health.
Become part of a global movement working to ensure every woman, child and adolescent can survive, thrive and reach their full potential. 👇

We’re temporarily closed as most of our team and residents have come down with the flu. To protect both you and us, we need some time to rest, recover, and regain our energy.
*Drop-offs are still accepted between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.*
Thank you for your understanding. We’ll be back as soon as we’re well.
Friends, it’s Worker’s Day weekend
Our admin “workers” will be away from 1–4 May 2026 (yes, even superheroes need a break 😌). We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, 5 May.
The shelter will be open for drop-offs & deliveries only - just pop in and ring the bell for assistance.
Thanks for the love and support, always
Some partnerships don’t just support the work… they sustain it.
Today, we’re highlighting our ongoing, multi-year partnership with the Kolisi Foundation (@kolisi_foundation).
Through their consistent support, our #GivingBackFridays soup kitchen continues to run week after week and ensuring that we never miss a Friday of serving those who rely on us most.
Today’s soup kitchen - and many more before it - is proudly sponsored by the Kolisi Foundation.
A special thank you to our friends at FTL SA (Freight and Transit Company Limited) for joining us on the ground, volunteering alongside our team and sharing Easter treats with the community. Moments like these remind us what true partnership and compassion look like in action.
We are truly grateful for their trust in us and for walking this journey of ending hunger in our community one meal at a time.

There are many ways to support our organisation, and @TotalEnergies_za is a beautiful example of what it means to partner with us just beyond donations.
As part of our International Women’s Day program, the women from @TotalEnergies_za facilitated a Work Readiness and Financial Literacy Workshop for the women in our shelter. Through practical guidance, shared knowledge and meaningful engagement, the session was intended to equip the ladies with tools that support confidence, independence and future opportunities.
This is what we mean by partnership - creating real impact where time, knowledge and heart are given to uplift others.
Thank you to the women at Total Energies, for showing that when we invest in women, we all grow. #Givetogain. 💜

We were excited to spend two days with our strategic partner @Total Energies. The two days included facilitating training and sponsoring our give back Friday.
It was #GivingbackFridays at FHS! Our day to give back and serve a hot meal to those experiencing hunger or food insecurity in our community and surrounding areas.
We love it when our strategic partners roll up their sleeves and get their hands a little dirty with us, and today, we were joined by the @TotalEnergies_za team on the ground, serving the community alongside our team and volunteers.
Thank you for showing that real partnership is about being present, giving your time, and sharing in the work of uplifting others.

Last week, we had our internal Wellness Day in partnership with Yeoville Clinic as part of our holistic approach to caring for the women and children in our care.
The nurses came through to the shelter, providing pap smears, general check-ups, baby immunizations, and assistance with clinic appointments for any necessary follow-ups as many of our residents come from various parts of Gauteng and sometimes struggle with getting acquainted with the clinic in our area.
We never take services like these for granted - especially when they are brought right to the comfort of our residents’ home. Bringing these essential healthcare services directly to the shelter makes a meaningful difference and ensures that our residents receive the care they need in a safe and supportive environment.
A heartfelt thank you to the Yeoville Clinic team for making the time to book our ladies and come through to support them with such care and dedication.

This #IWD2026 is a test of the world’s conscience.
Will we defend women and girls - or fail them?
Will we confront injustice - or tolerate it?
Will we act - or become complicit?
No justice #ForAllWomenAndGirls means no justice at all.
It’s time to spread the Easter cheer once more. 🐰

This week we observe Teen Suicide Prevention Week to raise awareness about measures that can be put in place to prevent suicides particularly among our teens. This year’s theme: “Your Feelings Matter, Let’s Talk,” highlights the importance of recognizing and acknowledging young people’s emotions and encouraging them to seek help when needed.
Adolescence comes with immense pressure,be it academic, social or emotional pressures. Many young people struggle in silence, because of fear of judgment or misunderstanding.
This week reminds us of the responsibility we share as parents, educators, professionals and communities to create environments where young people feel safe to express themselves and access support.
To every young person who feels overwhelmed or unheard:
Your feelings matter. Your life matters. You do not have to face things alone.

Friends, help us make this Valentine’s Day a little sweeter for the women in our care with a small chocolate gift.
Love has not always been kind to them, but this Valentine’s we want to remind them that True Love and safe love still exist.
If you would like to donate chocolates, you are welcome to drop them off at our home.

Real impact happens when organisations partner with purpose.
The successful opening of our Beauty Training Centre to up-skill unemployed youth in our community, reflects what meaningful CSI partnerships look like when business and community come together to create long-term change for vulnerable women.
Our work is strengthened through partnerships that go beyond once-off donations and focus on sustainable support, shared values, and real outcomes for the people we serve.
If your organisation is looking for a CSI partner where your contribution translates into dignity, safety, and opportunity for women rebuilding their lives, we would love to work with you. Reach out to us so we can engage on strengthening your CSI initiatives.

Women's history is Black history 🖤
This #BlackHistoryMonth, we celebrate all the amazing Black women, like Maya Angelou, who have been at the forefront of #GenderEquality, justice, and progress #ForAllWomenAndGirls.
Who are some Black women that inspire you?
🩸 We bleed
🩸 You bleed
🩸 They bleed
When something is this common, we need to be able to talk about it without fear or shame.
It’s time to break the stigma around periods and speak openly about #menstruation.
