I started as a @SEAS_UiB post-doc two weeks ago 🎉 Presenting a poster on my future research (third picture), meeting new collegues and discussing marine sustainability and leadership was the best start. Exciting times ahead in Bergen!
South Scotia Sea @TheJR#Exp382#IcebergAlley Site U1536 was the coldest recorded region in the Southern Ocean and likely the main deep-water formation location in the Middle Miocene 🥶
Our paper on the Late Cenozoic South Atlantic Sea Surface Temperature evolution is published today in @EGU_CP as a highlight paper https://t.co/68v0XxG8Wl

Our new TEX86-SST records (Site 696, U1536), compared with available SST records, reconstruct South Atlantic changes as the Southern Ocean deepens and widens. Low early Oligocene SST gradient = gyral circulation. High Miocene SST gradient = strong circumpolar current
A reminder about our 3-year postdoc opportunity at Southampton to work on biomarkers in the Oligocene! Be part of a large collaborative project involving Bridget Wade (UCL), Fanny Monteiro (Bristol), James Rae (St. Andrews) and more. Deadline 10th of July

Two day ago our #RVinvestigator@TULinvestigator voyage passed by ODP Site 1168 off West Tasmania. At #EGU23 @peterbijlWilkes will present our work on this site and southern ocean change, Thurs 11.00 in G1, on my behalf. I'm busy getting more material from this exciting region
The team aboard our #RVInvestigator had some of the best seats in Australia to watch this week's #AuroraAustralis.
Here's a glimpse of the view from the deck off the southwest coast of Tas.
Were you lucky enough to see it in person?

Sunings Hou et al. @UU_oceaNice paper is out! As I hang out just southwest of our favourite ODP Site 1168 I can confirm a current Sea surface temperature of 15.6°C. Hou shows how the SST developed since 23 Ma and what climatic implications are linked to this @uugeo
Three days into voyage:
Sampled piston core mud. Identified smear slides. Seasickness calmed.
Ate a baked scone and watermelon in the sun post shitf.
Its been a good day at sea off Tasmania for a marine geologist
Catching up with Linda in Hobart exactly 4 years since we sailed to iceberg alley #exp382 on @TheJR. Tomorrow I board another ship; #RVInvestigator (in the background) for a voyage offshore West Tasmania. Stay tuned 🚢🌊
(1/6) It’s #FollowFriday! Can you help us get to 10,000 followers? Show NSF how important the JOIDES Resolution is to science by sharing us with your network. And if they want to know what’s in it for them...?
The preprint of our South Atlantic Eocene-Miocene TEX86-sea surface temperature compilation is out and open for interactive public discussion until 26 Apr. https://t.co/Xd2fKaeUvE
Including some new #Exp382#IcebergAlley@JRSO_IODP@ECORD_IODP data
T-48 hours until PhD defence (so excited!!!). Unless you find yourself in Utrecht, you can follow along online: https://t.co/H2jX4c4ftw from 10.15 am on Friday. Let me know if you want a digital or physical version of the PhD thesis. Cover art by the amazing @MarloWordyBird <3

Urgently looking for 2 students/researchers to join @MarineVolcanism's sedimentology team on the upcoming voyage:
Gigantic submarine #Landslide offshore western Tasmania: risk mitigation for shelf-derived #Tsunami in Australia

As the Drake Passage deepened it cooled Antarctic coasts and increased the Australia - Antarctica temperature gradient ultimately enhancing thermal isolation of the Ice sheet

Thank you to the two anonymous and @TomDunkleyJones for reviewing the manuscript and to Springer Nature for editorial support. Big thank you to @NWO_Science for the funding the science. Thank you @JRSO_IODP, @IodpKcc, @ECORD_IODP for providing the sedimentary records
🚨Just in time for your light christmas reading list: our OA paper in @CommsEarth https://t.co/RzPdqBv4m6 In collaboration with Isabel Sauermilch, @AKAleksinski, @climatedynamics, @FP_GDGT, @francisangi, @peterbijlWilkes, @UU_oceaNice, @UUGeo. 🧵
