A mind-bending week down in Exeter sorting snow algae @X_Cyto. Flow-cytometry is pretty far out. Good job Attila Bebes is an absolute wizard at it and @RaifYuecel runs an impeccable lab. Cheers for the stay! @scienceisnotfun@eco_snow#snowalgae#flowcytometry
A brilliant week last week at @X_Cyto sorting mixed samples of Antarctic snow algae into single cell plates to understand species composition within blooms. A huge thanks to Attila Bebes and @RaifYuecel for their cytometric expertise! #snowalgae#flowcytometry#BigFoot
The Book of Seawilding: Part 1 - "In a small coastal community, not so unlike yours or mine..." - Brilliant to see the @Seawilding story so beautifully told. I cant wait to see the next chapters unfold! @ProjectSeagrass@alasdairodell@SAMSoceannews https://t.co/izIaAUuqKF
ever wondered how Antarctic snow algae can move through snow? PhD advert led by Otti Cruze Newcastle Uni, Melody Sandells Northumbria Uni, Xanthella and me @SAMSoceannews, details at: https://t.co/Hzt60mA2ol search for 'Environmental biophysics of microalgal migration in snow'
@RJLilley @alasdairodell@SAMSoceannews Ahhh my seaweed face is blushing. Cheers RJ! These things wouldnt be happening without your championing of the seas💪 Nature superheros you guys @ProjectSeagrass and @Seawilding!
Brilliant few days! And great to chew things over face to face. Thanks Claudia and @monas_nivalis for hosting. I cannot wait to see those toys in action
When conditions are right, snow algae can multiply fast, forming blooms that cover areas the size of Olympic swimming pools. Remote sensing allows us to detect those blooms from space and map their distribution on a continent-wide scale #snowalgae#remotesensing#Antarctica
@RJLilley @SAMSoceannews @seawilding @alasdairodell Its been a total pleasure @RJLilley ! Stimulating, motivating, and an eye-opener on what can be set in motion through community action. Here's to plenty more @seawilding
Grab a tea (optional G), and fill your friday with this lovely video on seagrass and oysters from @Seawilding. 5 minutes of magical underwater photography from wildlife wizard @Lochvisions. #oceanoptimism#generationrestoration
If you want to see what we've been up to with @seawilding and @ProjectSeagrass down in Loch Craignish there is a wee article in the @SAMSoceannews Ocean Explorer Magazine this month. A few cool #images in there too 😉

The single-cell algae that make up bloom communities are comprised of a diverse range of shapes, sizes, colours, and metabolisms. All are well adapted to survive in the harsh temps, nutrient, and light conditions that characterise the Antarctic. #snowalgae#cryosphere#Antarctica
