We are a group of people who want to prevent land bought with public money for the Citizens of Bath being privatised by a millionaire with an offshore base.
They used to have a national volleyball tournament, hockey, football, American football, cricket, hurling on the the area not used by the rugby and it is in The Trustees’ objectives but they have all disappeared. They would like you to think no one wants to use it. It is not true
Bath Recreation Trust are a group of faceless people who are supposed to represent all sports and yet they have allowed The Recreation Ground to be dominated by rugby. This is the last thing the City Fathers wanted when they bought it in 1956.
@LansdownView The Recreation Trust will not be interested in the High Common because you cannot play rugby on the side of a hill. They only seem to be interested in rugby and forming an academy to provide players for their tenant, Bath Rugby. No other sport seen on the Rec.
Sadly the CEO of Bath Recreation Limited threatened that the Pavillion Vaccination centre would have to close if the temporary East Stand was dismantled in accordance with its planning condition. The Leisure Centre was never closed when East Stand dismantled previously.
@DisasterWera By visiting the BANES Planning Application website. All planning applications allow a set time for comments and if you go to Bath Rugby’s application for West Stand you will be able to see and read all the comments.
Your latest planning application to rejig the West Stand and make it permanent does not exactly fill one with the belief that you really care what the Recreation Ground looks like. There are considerably more objectors than supporters for it.
There is no such thing as a design that works for everyone. The only design that would work for everyone will not make the £millions that the owner of Bath Rugby needs. Why spoil beautiful centre of Bath for 16 games a year? The players are physically incapable of playing more.
@YukteshwarKumar It’s imperative @bathrugby remains at The Rec, it’s part of the city any match day at home is so valuable to the economy & when televised is a great advert of our wonderful city potentially all around the world.
All that’s needed is a design & facility that works for everyone.
@carolecadwalla @suegcraig Is this the same Lancet that has been proved to publish rubbish theories of anti vaxxers? Surely they should try and improve their reputation before they get involved in new campaigns.
@bathwickian I notice this is a very old picture. It does not have the wooden fence to the left of the old west stand that makes it look like a 7th Cavalry Fort and the East Stand was down.
@recforall
A simple question for @ShelfordMark . As Bath does not have that many policemen nor a police station, is it best use of resources to have policeman with motor cycle hidden in long grass at top of Bathwick Hill with a speed gun?
@bathwickian
@BathRugby You would not believe that Arena 1865 is the offshore controlled arm of Bath Rugby. The announcement would have been more convincing without the “crocodile tears”
@bathlive The Church prattles on about slavery forgetting the thousands of people who worked ridiculous hours in unsafe conditions for very little to create these fabulous monuments. The Bishops made slaves of their own people.
I wonder if @CllrMandaRigby and @YukteshwarKumar interfere in the matters of Lambridge as much as @rob_appleyard interferes in the matters of Bathwick? Surely he should bow to the wishes of his fellow Libdem councillors or is it different because “Bath Rugby is Bath”.
@BathEcho Does seem against our climate aims to have lorries trundling into Bath so to dismantle the stand, and then having the same lorries trundling back four weeks later to erect the stand again in line with planning..surely common sense should prevail this year
If common sense prevailed there would be no temporary East Stand. It has been there as a result of temporary planning permissions for 24 years. This surely gives whole new meaning to “ temporary”.

Here's one season ticket holder who wants it down. Temporary planning permission is just that, temporary.
Bath Rugby should comply with planning permission like the rest of us. Arrogant entitlement shouldn't overcome legal obligations.
@CleanAir4Bath @BathRugby Surely they have thankfully withdrawn their application to keep the East Stand up as they do not have a leg to stand on. They have also suddenly realised that the car park which was vital for their new stadium is no longer so vital.
