The first storms of the season are forecast for later this week, and it's always a concern for us in the Friends group here. Will there be flash flooding, will branches or whole trees come down and damage graves, it's always a worry. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Great turn out at the @FriendsBrisbane 150 (+1) anniversary memorial unveiling at the South Brisbane Cemetery. Wonderful #community event with hundreds attending.

GOTHIC GARDENING Many Victorian graves were designed to be planted with symbolic flowers and would have been gardened and cared for by loved ones in the Victorian era. These were called 'cradle graves'; a few are being recreated in the present #GothicSpring#BotanicalGothic
The great names you stumble across during South Brisbane Cemetery research. Just found out that the middle V here stands for Vanilla. Violet Vanilla is a very awesome name to give to a baby. 💜
Author C.S. Lewis, on grieving over the death of his wife, American poet Joy Davidman, who passed away at just 45 of cancer in 1960:
"Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything."
The more I think about this, the more excited I am at the prospect. These fantastic pinnacles were such a feature in early illustrations of Highgate Cemetery. Their Regency exuberance makes this the 'Brighton Pavilion of cemetery chapels'!
Some of the very, very splendid people who have been a part of the 'Guardian Angels' monthly cleaning bees through this very disrupted year. We got hundreds of old graves cleaned and tidied, and the South Brisbane Cemetery looks that much better for their efforts.
