The Micronesia Challenge's long-term goal is to effectively conserve 20% of the region's terrestrial resources and 50% of its nearshore resources by 2020. Compared to 30x30, which aims to conserve & restore 30% of resources by 2030 and also encourages people to #SaveMoreNature
The Marianas Trench Marine National Monument consists of 3 units: Islands Unit, Trench Unit & Volcanic Unit. The Islands Unit is a marine protected area for indigenous use only (under 5% of CNMI's total EEZ), while only the seafloor is protected in the Trench and Volcanic Units.
