When local officials and neighboring tribes all express opposition to a proposed national park at the Apostle Islands, the federal government should listen. Unfortunately, @RepTiffany's bill, which has NEVER moved forward in Congress, was jammed into the Interior Appropriations bill.

I opposed this back-door effort that will enrich a few local landowners, but doesn't have local support. We should not play politics with the Apostle Islands. They are simply too valuable.

On Earth Day 2026, the US House of Representatives was set to vote on a bill that would gut the Endangered Species Act, the law signed by Richard Nixon in 1973 that passed 92 to 0 in the Senate and 355 to 4 in the House.

@LeoDiCaprio used the occasion to post the US Capitol switchboard number to his 60 million Instagram followers and ask them to call their representatives immediately.

DiCaprio said the bill would devastate the most vulnerable species, which are essential to functioning ecosystems. He called it an existential threat to national security and said it traded the future of life on Earth for the short term economic gain of a wealthy few.

He urged the House to reject the ESA Amendments Act of 2025 and choose instead to protect the living systems that every human being depends on.

We arent just witnessing a decline; we are witnessing an unravelling of the systems that make our air breathable and our soil alive. New data from the Living Planet Index confirms a terrifying reality: global wildlife populations have plummeted by 73% in just 50 years (1970–2020).

The burden of this extraction is not shared equally. The Global South is being hollowed out to fuel endless growth:

Latin America & Caribbean: -95%
Africa: -76%
Asia-Pacific: -60%
North America: -39%
Europe & Central Asia: -35%

This isnt an accident. It is a calculated result of:
1. Industrial Food Systems: Forests cleared for meat and soy.
2. Fossil Fuels: Driving a climate collapse that bleaches reefs and melts habitats.
3. Endless Extraction: Rivers choked by dams and chemicals for profit.

Every extinct species is a warning sign. Every forest cut is a wound. We, specifically our economic systems and the wealthy elite, are acting as the asteroid.

The window to change is closing fast. We must move beyond. We must BOYCOTT FOSSIL FUELS.
