The Romance of the Letter Box – Tony Cross
Discover the history of Britain’s iconic red post boxes, with a look at the different types still surviving today. Tony will also highlight Dorset’s oldest letterbox, dating from 1853 and still in daily use.
Our next illustrated Talk will be ‘Shipwrecks of Lyme Bay’ by Nigel Clarke, recounting the dramatic stories of vessels lost along the Jurassic Coast.

There is still much we don’t know about the life and work Lyme Regis palaeontologist, Mary Anning. In this talk, Tom will describe the latest research and introduce a different Mary Anning to the one known from her famous portrait.

Ken Gollop will be giving an talk on ‘When the Yanks came to Lyme’ in recognition of the 80th anniversary of their arrival in November 1943. At that time US troops were secretly stationed throughout the SW in preparation for the D-Day landings in Normandy.

On Thursday 7th March Wolfgang Grulke will be giving an insight into the fascinating world of uncoiled 'heteromorph' ammonites and what they tell us about evolution in his talk 'Ammonite Secrets that Darwin might wish he had known'.
