@AKofiCup In contrast, my first internal reaction when I read the question was “I don’t have time for that.”
Who have the better answer?
This is a true story, by the way, and I shared it with permission.
@AKofiCup Example: I had asked the question of one of our small groups “if Jesus were to spend the day with you, what would you choose to do with Jesus?” One of the men immediately replied “go fishing!” (Because Jesus knows where the fish are). 2/
@BeardedAcctant @YourCalvinist Officially, cowboy churches are geared towards those in the working horse community. Typically evangelical in doctrine and western in flavor. Sometimes, sermons are delivered horseback.
@VisitingBoise@brmorris@SaltyHamsterdr1 One more thing. This is probably the most important bit: we are trying to serve our community in a way that makes an eternal impact in the lives of those we serve.
Unless the Lord works, all of our effort is meaningless.
So we ask Him to use our effort to make a real impact
@VisitingBoise@brmorris@SaltyHamsterdr1 Praying for wisdom, unity and humility in a group of people who all bring their own interests to the table is asking for a real work of God.
The people in our church aren’t the same (politically, economically, socially), but you couldn’t tell by how they love each other. 2/
@VisitingBoise@brmorris@SaltyHamsterdr1 I have been in churches my whole life. Some of them have been dysfunctional, led by self-seeking people who wanted to dominate others. I have cleaned up after some who were not shepherds. It has been my experience that genuine unity (not uniformity) is a real thing. 1/
@VisitingBoise@brmorris@SaltyHamsterdr1 You seem to think that logic and good information is somehow antithetical to prayerful decision making. But if we are a whole person (spiritual, physical, rational, emotional, psychological and social beings), how is it illogical not bring every element into the discussion?
@VisitingBoise@brmorris@SaltyHamsterdr1 We do make the decision. We own that.
I’m trying to understand what your objection is to a group of Christians praying for wisdom, humility and unity in the process of making decisions is?
@VisitingBoise@brmorris@SaltyHamsterdr1 We pray for unity in the decision making process. Most of the decisions that we make in the church are not right/wrong decisions (should we help those in need? Yes!), but decisions of how (what is the best way in our community to help those in need?). 1/
@VisitingBoise@brmorris@SaltyHamsterdr1 We have sat on some projects (nor essentials, like helping those in need) for a couple of years until we came to a united understanding of what that would look like. 2/
