“A broken water heater will soon become thousands of dollars more expensive to replace in the Bay Area, as regulators move to phase out gas-powered models. 

Starting next year, many homeowners will be required to replace broken gas-powered water heaters with electric heat pump models, a swap that is on average $3,500 more expensive”

Waste Collection Service Alert Update for July 9, 2025

Good evening,

The City of Fremont is providing a second update to keep our community informed about the status of waste collection services.

We recognize how essential timely and reliable waste collection is for our residents and businesses. The current disruption in service from Republic Services—stemming from a work stoppage by local drivers in solidarity with Teamster drivers striking in other U.S. cities—is understandably concerning.

The City is working with Republic Services in an effort to restore service as quickly as possible for our community. Given the uncertainty around how long the work stoppage may last, the City is actively exploring potential service options to support residents and businesses in the event the disruption continues in the coming days or weeks.

In the meantime, Fremont residents and businesses, with proof of business/residency, may utilize free drop-off disposal services at the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station, located at 41149 Boyce Rd. in Fremont.
