Exactly. That ending is why their relationship still feels alive without undoing No Way Home.

MJ telling Peter she doesn’t love him hurts, but from her perspective, she’s being honest. She read his letter, knows what he feels, but she doesn’t have the memories that built that love.

Then the movie gives us that tiny detail at the end: MJ going back to their favorite spot, clutching Peter’s necklace.

She doesn’t suddenly remember him. She doesn’t magically fall back in love with him.

But something is still pulling her toward him.

Her mind forgot Peter Parker. Her heart clearly didn’t forget everything.

'SPIDER-MAN BRAND NEW DAY' might secretly be proving that Captain America was right in Civil War.

The movie’s whole conflict around Spider-Man using surveillance to track down Scorpion is basically Peter learning the exact lesson Steve Rogers was trying to teach the Avengers.

Peter was originally Team Iron Man because he was young and trusted the people in charge. But in Brand New Day, he sees firsthand how dangerous it can be when governments and institutions are given too much power.

And that’s what makes the movie’s government angle so interesting.

The DODC, William Metzger, and the surveillance storyline all reinforce the idea that good intentions don’t automatically make unchecked authority okay.

It also connects perfectly to the MCU’s history:

Kingpin abused political power.
Ross repeatedly changed his agenda.
Valentina operated from the shadows.
And now the MCU is heading toward an anti-mutant movement that could once again put government agendas above individual rights.

Steve said it back in Civil War:

“The safest hands are still our own.”

And after everything Peter has experienced, Brand New Day might finally be turning Spider-Man into a Team Cap guy.
