Da’Quain Johnson’s mother had to walk into a Grand Rapids city meeting and say that out loud because this system still refuses to treat her son’s life as worthy of justice. Her child was chased off a bicycle, mauled by a K‑9 and shot in the back, and weeks later the officer who killed him is still on paid leave, still unnamed, still uncharged.

Michigan State Police have already done their job and delivered the case file. The Kent County prosecutor’s office is hiding behind “we need more information” instead of giving this family a straight answer and filing criminal charges. Delay is not neutrality; delay is protection for a killer in uniform.

While officials talk about “healing” and “policy review,” this mother is forced to relive her son’s death in public just to ask for what should be automatic: name the officer, fire the officer, prosecute the officer. Justice here is not complicated, it means full transparency, criminal charges, and real consequences for the officer who pulled the trigger.
