Your ability to read the room and have timing is very a very important skill or ability to have as a person. I judge your emotional regulation and intelligence on your ability to read the room and time matters appropriately
You have a timing issue Prof. Kev’s post did not require you to teach, compare or contrast or do any linguistics analysis. It wasn’t about that. There is a time and place for academics and you mistimed it
A sad thing here is the very insulting, anti-Black American offense South Africans are taking at being linguistically compared to African Americans, refusing to accept that they’re *at minimum* bilingual. Just open revulsion at being likened to people they look down on. Awful.
Sigh…. Considering the fact that I am a linguistics professor and researcher specializing in Black languaging practices, and I teach a course on African American language, let me repeat: AAL and English are different languages. “South African people be speaking” is NOT English.
@Tina_Hokwana I was going to say vicarious liability but you can’t apply vicarious liability to an individual it has to be the entity that employed Dr B i.e the surgery and not Dr A. I am with Dr A on this one. I would apply for a strike out if I was Dr A
You have to love people where they are. You can’t talk your friends out of decisions they’ve made for themselves. Giving unsolicited advice and imposing your values on someone won’t change their mind. Let them walk their path their brain isn’t ready to register it..
#ThePolygamist has me wondering… where do we draw the line as friends? Is it support when you watch your friend build a life around a married man, have his children (TWINS!!!!), and say nothing? Or is that enabling? Do we speak up, set boundaries, or stay silent because we’re scared of losing the friendship?
I’ve been side eying the sex scenes on The Polygamist because of Sdumo’s response to Nirvana’s sexual assault. I can’t watch it without being scared for the costars..
