Big Squardle update! https://t.co/eAiNyYZHq0 It has two new game modes, as well as a few new quality of life features.
The new modes are Squardle 34 and Squardle Distance 34. Both use a brand new 34-square board layout, but the latter also completely changes how the hints work!
Squardle version 2.002 is now live. It has the *very* minor update that๐ฒ will replaceโฌ in the "share results" emoji.
This change was made because the old square had a different width in some fonts, so the emoji board became misaligned for some users.
Testing: What emoji align the "|" after them on your device?
๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ | Red Large Square
โฌโฌโฌโฌโฌ | White Large Square
โฌโฌโฌโฌโฌ | Black Large Square
๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ | Black Square Button
๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ | White Square Button
If you have blueskั, also answer my same post there.
A big update for Squardle will drop this Friday! Here's a sneak peek at one of the two new game modes, as well as a look at one of the minor quality of life changes.

New game modes drop tomorrow!
Squardle Obscure is all about what happens if you extend the word list of possible answers. It has customization options board size and just how much to extend the list. Until then you can check out @Stro_Solves previews: https://t.co/jvqm4037Oz
To generate these smaller files I ended up writing some terrible Python code, as a text file with ~169 million characters is too big for most text editors to even let you open it.
Having my small HTML5 game need code in C *and* Python to generate assets wasn't really planned. ๐ฐ
The Squardle version that's currently being Beta tested by my lovely Patreon supporters just got an update.
They're testing an update that will add "Squardle Obscure" as a game mode. I just added "Squardle Obscure 25" to it. Here's the new part of the "Other game modes" page:
The result was >6.5 million boards that takes up ~135MB in text form.
So to not immediately run into bandwidth and loading time issues I've made it so that logged in players will load a small randomly picked subset of the pre-generated boards when they load the game.
@dgrey0 Thank you so much for sharing this!
I have a personal account on Mastodon https://t.co/WEirY1UhRI as my current escape plan. I feel the non-commercial aspect of it might slow down its enshittification. But I might diversify and at least grab a name at bsky as well.
@tailsteak It snuck up on me!
Once I noticed, any change would be risky, as many players keep the game open in a tab they hardly ever refresh. So if I push an update regarding specific boards too late there's a risk some players refresh halfway through and have the board change on them.
New update for Squardle: It adds the ability to backup your cookie data as a text string!
This feature can also be used to move your stats and streaks to a new device. (Assuming you're switching to only playing on that device instead.)
An upcoming game mode called "Squardle Obscure" is currently being tested by my Patreon supporters!
It comes with some settings to configure how obscure words it should allow as answers. While "brutally obscure" is an option, I personally don't think it gives the best gameplay.
