If the Oyo State Government pays the ransom, it will show that the state cannot protect its citizens or rescue victims through its security forces. Instead, it prefers to negotiate and surrender to criminals.

This will damage public trust in the government and make Oyo State an easy target for future attacks.

It will also encourage more kidnapping. When criminals see that kidnapping brings huge money with very little risk, more people will be attracted to the crime. Others will copy the model, causing a sharp rise in kidnapping cases.
