@chilloutpeoples@AngusTaylorMP It's Mrs...
Have you read my other comments on this post? TLDR version: It's not the right time to be alienating our defenceless country.
@chilloutpeoples@AngusTaylorMP You understand that by Whitlam voter, I meant that I am in the Whitlam electorate and not a voter of Gough Whitlam? LOL π I'm afraid he was ousted years before I was born.
@Lolaka94@AngusTaylorMP Some things we can, some things we can't. A pandemic, a regional conflict, or a cyclone hitting multiple countries doesn't care where national borders are. Sometimes it's simply more effective for countries to work together than to tackle the same problem separately.
They're not perfect, and it's reasonable to question how they're run, but it's hard to argue they've done nothing. The WHO helps coordinate responses to disease outbreaks, and the UN is involved in everything from disaster relief to peacekeeping and humanitarian aid.
We can debate whether they're worth the money, but that's a different argument from saying they provide no value at all.
Nobody is claiming we can stop climate change completely. The question is whether human activity is making it happen faster and more severely. COVID was actually a good real-world example of this. During the lockdowns, emissions dropped significantly because fewer people were driving, flying and commuting. It didn't stop climate change, but it did show that our actions can have a measurable impact on emissions.
I agree we need to prepare for what's coming, but that doesn't mean we should ignore the causes. Most pollution comes from large industries and energy production, not individual households. Without government policies, there's very little incentive for businesses to reduce emissions or invest in cleaner technologies.
My thoughts on this are, we are not America. We need to be careful not to just parrot American propaganda. We are a small and defenceless nation. Given the current time we are living in, a time of wars and political upheavals, certain leaders in certain countries are feeling emboldened and are willing to take actions that they normally wouldn't. We need all the friends and security and protections we can get. We certainly cannot rely on the US at the moment. It is a very precarious time.
I agree we need to invest in Australian infrastructure more. We need to be processing our own steel and keeping more of our own gas. We need to invest in a massive irrigation program to bring water inland to farmers.
Leaving the UN and the WHO is a ridiculous step back in global progress. Being a member of the UN gives Australia a voice on the global decision making stage, it gives us far more influence than we'd have on our own, helping us protect our interests in a region dominated by much larger nations like China and India. It also helps create a more stable and safe world, which is important for Australia's security, trade, and economy because we rely heavily on international markets and cooperation.
Australians should absolutely care about climate change. We're already feeling the effects through more severe floods, bushfires and droughts. It also matters to our Pacific neighbours, some of whom are facing rising sea levels that threaten their communities and way of life.
I don't know what sort of Australia you want, but I want a safe Australia whose position in the world is stable and protected.
Also, the swearing and aggression doesn't help you get your point across.
@Glenn32842815@AngusTaylorMP I think if no governments step in to intervene with the tech bros, we may be headed for a One World Government run by AI.

@PaulineHansonOz I am reading through your policies, as I'm interested to know more about your party. I am not sure about the reasoning behind leaving the UN? Is it only to save a little bit of money? Doesn't that provide Australia with protection? Just wanting to understand.
@tim_cook We need to educate parents about limiting technology. If you have raised a teen in the past ten years, you have seen the terrible mistakes we made as parents giving them tech at such a young age.
