URGENT: Pls let’s help save Rebecca’s mum.
A young lady called Rebecca @orebe_ came into my DM to request help to alert the public to help save her mom’s life. The woman has breast cancer and she will die without getting life saving treatment.
She sent a message:
“Hello good evening sir, I hope you’re well.
I really admire how you use your platform to support and show up for people in need.
My name is Rebecca, and I’m currently raising funds for my mum, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She needs chemotherapy and surgery, and the cost has become overwhelming for our family.
We’ve opened a fundraiser with a target of N5,000,000 to help cover her treatment and care.
We are sharing our story to help people understand my mum’s medical journey, the treatment she urgently needs, and why we are asking for support at this time.
In September, my mum went to Longe Hospital in Agbado after feeling unwell. While we initially thought it was malaria, she also mentioned a swelling in her breast that had been noticed earlier that month. The doctors acted quickly and performed surgery the same day to remove the lump for testing. The sample was sent to Fespath Medicare, where it was confirmed to be breast cancer.
In November, we continued her care at Isalu Hospital, where further examinations were done. She was referred for a CT scan of the chest and abdomen to determine if the cancer had spread. The scan alone cost ₦160,000, and this was only the beginning of many medical expenses. After reviewing her results, the general surgeon advised us to carry out an Immunohistochemistry (IHC) test, which is necessary to determine the exact type of breast cancer and the most effective treatment plan.
We were informed that my mum would need chemotherapy and surgery. Doctors explained that treatment could either start with chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before surgery, or surgery first, depending on the IHC results and her overall health.
In December, we took her to LASUTH, where doctors requested additional tests, including an ECHO scan and Full Blood Count (FBC), to confirm that she is strong enough to begin chemotherapy. These tests were carried out at Wexcare Centre, which cost N114,500 and we are currently awaiting the next stage of her treatment plan.
At this point, the financial burden has become overwhelming. The costs of scans, tests, consultations, chemotherapy sessions, surgery, medications, and hospital visits are far beyond what our family can afford alone.
We are opening this fundraising campaign to help cover:
•Chemotherapy sessions
•Surgery and post-surgery care
•Medications and follow-up tests
•Transportation and hospital-related expenses.
I completely understand how many requests you receive, but if you’re able to share our fundraiser or support in any way, it would mean so much to us. Thank you so much for your time and kindness.”
This story is quite a sad one.
