@krassenstein By “So disgusting” you mean “I wish Trump wasn’t there” right? Seems to be less about what he DID and more about the inherent fact that he’s present.
In case you had forgotten, this is the US World Cup. Trump had, just prior to this clip, AWARDED THEM THE TROPHY.
Fake outrage.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun All of this to say, your eyes are on the businesses when the politicians are bought. The local level can chase away the things you hate, but you need the fed to change for anything to actually improve. Socialists won’t reach national majority- hence my push for joint solutions.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun Trump is not some demon and Obama wasn’t an angel- praise and criticism to go round. It’s all the same fight. Reps went out of their way to torpedo Obama and Dems are even more efficient at doing the same. DNC messaging is “TrUmP bAd” and RNC messaging is “SoCiAlIsM bAd”
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun Capitalism isn’t the reason everything has failed. Americans sent hundreds of sophists into government. New faces saying new things will always pull a lot of votes, but Mamdani is moving even faster than Trump has and you’ve already seen how quickly things can flip on themselves.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun I look at our problems and I see them as entirely salvageable. Where you see greed in one subset, I see greed in totality. And, beyond greed, I see pride. The political right and left can absolutely fix the system we have. Reps CHOSE to fight Obama. Dems CHOOSE to fight Trump.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun Because my point is that many of America’s top earners could be jerks or overly lavish, but they’re still the ones footing the bill to get all of these businesses going. If you signal to investors that they have to stake their livelihood on every venture, it WILL spook them.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun Setting a reasonable minimum wage and paying everyone the SAME are different things. Thats why I asked you if everyone deserved to earn the SAME and you had said 100%. Many proposed models promote equitable distribution, not meritocratic distribution- which is my concern.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun So then do you recognize that company founders and investors deserve more upfront $$$ to achieve ROI from the money they fronted? Or is their venture also greedy? Should they recoup those funds at the same rate of those who happens to enjoy employment on behalf of their risk?
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun Though anecdotal, I have lived what you’re describing and it isn’t the fair outcome you suggest. My former workplace had a critical vacancy 2 hours from me. I was tapped to assist in the interim and ended up working 5 months pro bono (unknowingly).
Equity < Meritocracy
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun I don’t disagree with this point at all- because my point isn’t in defense of CEO’s. It’s in defense of continued market growth and the retention of an incentive structure that rewards effort. No more overtime. No more covering for vacant roles. Why work more for the same?
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun It has nothing to do with hierarchy and everything to do with opportunity. You don’t need a degree or to be a CEO to be smart or develop a good idea- but now your good idea is worth as much to you as anyone else AND you have fewer potential gains to even afford to try it.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun Let me just ask this much: do you think a CEO, a maintenance guy, a line worker, and a regional representative for a given business all deserve to be paid the same?
If the answer is yes, can you then explain to me how that will not impede innovation/growth of the business?
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun None of that punishment ultimately does anything to alter the BEHAVIORS of the business, either. Some may liquidate, others may leave the country, most will likely choose to raise prices to salvage as much as they can. Future industry expansion will rely on joint-ventures.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun And that’s where we fundamentally disagree. EVERYONE deserves the SAME pay because SOME employees earn too much is not a viable philosophy. As I already noted- greed exists in everyone- not just the elite. Underperformeds will be rewarded and overachievers punished.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun This approach will not FIX anything. It doesn’t repair. It doesn’t moderate. It’s just punishment policy that will stagnate the market. It goes beyond equality to punish those who truly achieve and reward those who choose to coast. We’re trading one systemic issue for another.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun It didn’t spiral because we gave it our best shot and couldn’t figure it out. It spiraled because the left and right and too prideful to collaborate and have honest conversations. That behavior persists in the DSA yet I’m expected to put my faith in them and give up on the rest.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun “As simple as” as if your reframing does anything to change the outcome. None of these behaviors will make the companies cooperative. None of these behaviors will persuade them to stay- let alone change. You want to brute force change and are prepared to blame them when it fails.
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun And I will continue to explain to you that there are a million options available to us between “let them do whatever they want” and “seize their businesses”. Overregulation causes just as many problems as overly favorable policies do.If your way fails, the road to recover is LONG
@BigSethTM@GLOATINGTRUTH@hasanthehun This framework is only productive in a reality where every single employee has equivalent potential and worth. Essentially, your way sends the message to the market that you could work smarter AND harder than all of your peers, but you’re only worth as much as the worst employee.
