Deeply disturbed by the news coming from across the LoC. The killing of more than a dozen protesting civilians and police personnel is extremely sad. The Government there should know better than to use force to handle public grievance and demands in this manner.
When people take to the streets to express their concerns, it is a signal that they seek to be heard. It is the responsibility of those in authority to listen, engage and peacefully resolve the matter, rather than allow it to escalate into violence, arbitrary arrests and loss of life.
Hope and pray that better sense prevails and the matter is handled with maturity while addressing the concerns of the people.

I will tell you an interesting story about Azad Kashmir: due to my songs about Kashmir, I was invited to Pakistan. I flew to Islamabad and one day I would meet the President of Azad Kashmir. My friends hosting me and I went a bit earlier and we visited a bookshop in the vicinity to spend some time. I started checking the books and the title of a book I randomly picked up is still on my mind: Is Azad Kashmir really Azad?.... Unfortunately, considering what is going on in Pakistan today, I often remember the title of this book: Is Azad Kashmir really Azad?.... What do you think?....
In this video, the Inspector General of Police of Azad Kashmir appears to be instructing forces to "shoot them" as protesters demand their rights.
While the government speaks of dialogue and negotiations, its actions on the ground tell a very different story.
Citizens demanding the implementation of agreements should be met with engagement and accountability, not bullets and intimidation.
If this is how peaceful dissent is being handled, then serious questions must be asked about the government's commitment to democratic rights and the rule of law.
