In 1985 during a graduation ceremony at the University of Nairobi graduation square, something legendary transpired.

The Chancellor, President Daniel T Arap Moi was supposed to inspect a guard of honour mounted by the Kenya Army, Navy and Air Force.

As the commander waited for the President's arrival so that he could give the command ya kufunga mguu to his troops, the then SONU chairman, Mwandawiro Mgangha stepped forward majestically and did the unthinkable.

He took a daring move and inspected the parade himself, ahead of Moi. Hi attempt was short-lived though.

The hawk-eyed special branch cops whisked him into detention after he had matched about 20 steps.

The comrade was actually considered powerful then and daring.
