As AI begins to shape how public resources are allocated, technical literacy for public leaders becomes a matter of accountability. Bridging the gap between technological pace and leadership frameworks is essential for public trust.
The highlight? Sunday’s final presentations. Seeing the cohort synthesise a week of intense reflection into strategic visions for the constituencies they will serve was a powerful reminder: the next generation of East African leadership is not just a vision, it is in motion.
We just wrapped the East Africa Public Leadership Programme Seminar 2: The State of the Region. Our Fellows moved from the "Inner Work" of personal trauma and resilience to the "Systems Knowledge" of regional history, AI, and sustainable development.
We have spent the week on history and internal resilience, but today is about the "Outer Work", the technical and global shifts that are currently rewriting the rules of governance.
#publicleadership
Led by our pastoral lead, East Africa Public Leadership Programme Fellows are exploring the triggers and personal drivers that shape their leadership. In high-pressure public service, resilience is a technical requirement for the challenges of tomorrow.
The first 48 hours of Seminar 2 involve zero PowerPoints. Instead, our Fellows start in self-organised small groups. The "Why" is simple: If you want to lead in a democracy, you start by building trust with your peers. This is where real leadership muscle is built.
This week, the East Africa Public Leadership Programme enters a pivotal phase: Seminar 2: The State of the Region. It’s where "Inner Work" meets "Systems Knowledge." We’re diving into regional history, personal roadmaps, & the future of public service.
One of the most powerful parts of the East Africa Public Leadership Programme is when fellows share real leadership dilemmas, challenge each other’s thinking, and connect theory to lived experience.
#Publicleadership#Futurelect
"Why me? Why us? Why now?" On seminar day 3, our East Africa Public Leadership Programme fellows presented their public narratives.
It’s one of the most intense and transformative parts of the #Futurelect curriculum.
By integrating the "Inner Work" of personal purpose with the "Outer Work" of political systems, #Futurelect is setting a strong benchmark for leadership development. Ethical. Experienced. Non-partisan.
Public narrative isn't just storytelling. It’s a leadership tool that motivates others to action by sharing values. Our fellows are learning to link their personal "Story of Self" to the urgent "Story of Now" facing East Africa.
The calibre of conversation shapes the quality of leadership.
Yesterday, Day 2 of the East Africa Public Leadership Programme seminar focused on deepening understanding and expanding perspective on the leadership journey.
The mission for the next 4 days:
📍 Clarifying public purpose
📍 Decoding the systems that shape our politics
📍 Bridging the gap between "leadership" and public leadership.
