I asked which house was which.

"No idea."

I asked whether the neighbors know who is who.

He shrugged. "Probably not."

Then he said the thing that finished me. "It's just there."

Every house on this street is telling a joke. The joke has been running for years. It plays to anyone who walks past holding a phone. Nobody signs it. Nobody is standing at the window to see whether it landed.

A jest performed in an empty field, with no expectation of laughter, is the most disciplined act I have witnessed in this country.

He asked me again what I wanted.

I did not have a joke. I had a fear of dishonoring the street.

I named it THE HOUSE OF THE CAREFUL FLAME.

He typed it in with no expression whatsoever and said, "That's a good one."

He did not ask what it meant. He did not ask why a man would name a router after a fire he is watching. He plugged it in, it went out over the fence into the air, and that was the entire ceremony.

Three days later the network across the street changed to THE HOUSE OF THE SLIGHTLY BURNT CHICKEN.

I have no proof it was aimed at me. I have never spoken to that house.

I checked every morning for a week. I am not going to pretend I was not checking.

Four days after that, the corner became HOUSE OF THE MISSING LID.

In May there was a stretch I would rather not put down here. I stopped opening the blinds. On the Sunday, a network appeared that had never been there before.

I went out. A man two doors down was standing in his driveway holding a hose he was not using.

He said, "Hey."

That was the whole conversation.

At the cookout in August a woman I had never met pointed at me with a paper plate. "You're the flame guy."

I have lived here one year. I do not know the last names of four of my neighbors.

I know all four of their routers.

They know mine.

The “Patrick did it” theory falls apart the second you look at the actual evidence presented in the case.

According to investigators and prosecutors: Patrick was captured on surveillance at CVS and the restaurant during the critical window. Lindsay’s phone remained at the house and was moving inside it. Her DNA was found on the exercise bands. Her blood was found in the bedroom and outside beneath the window. She directed Patrick to the basement when he returned, and authorities say she later told multiple people that a voice told her to kill the children and herself.

Even her defense isn’t arguing that Patrick secretly committed the killings. The legal fight has centered on her mental state and criminal responsibility.

You can debate insanity, medication, intent, or culpability. But pretending there’s no evidence connecting Lindsay Clancy to what happened—or casually accusing Patrick despite the surveillance, phone records, DNA, witnesses, and timeline—is something completely different.

The evidence matters. Even when it destroys the theory you wanted to believe.

The heartbreaking story of two young sisters who protested in Iran and were reportedly sexually assaulted in detention.

Twin sisters Taraneh and Romina Rahimi were just 20 years old. One dreamed of opening her own equestrian club. The other worked in a shoe shop.

Today, one is facing execution. The other has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The sisters, from Isfahan, were arrested in the middle of the night. Security forces broke into their home, tied their hands and feet, put bags over their heads, and took them away.

For four months, no one knew where they were.

Their mother spent night after night searching outside courthouses, prisons, and hospitals, desperate to find her daughters. When she finally saw them in Dowlatabad Prison, both had bruised and swollen faces. Parts of their hair had fallen out or had reportedly been ripped out.

Taraneh said that while held in solitary confinement, she could hear her sister screaming and crying as she was tortured. Interrogators repeatedly struck Taraneh’s previously operated knee and threatened to sexually assault her sister if she refused to sign forced confessions.

According to Taraneh, a prison medical official told her: “You’re going to die anyway. What difference does it make whether you die with a broken leg or a healthy one?”

A complaint alleging sexual assault during detention was formally filed. Yet the court did not hold even a single hearing to investigate the allegation. Instead, the two sisters and other defendants in the case were handed death sentences and decades-long prison terms.

Confessions extracted under torture. Lawyers given just ten minutes to review an 8,000-page case file. A judge who insulted the defendants more than 20 times during the proceedings.

Two young irani women had dreams and that is why they joined the January uprising to demand Freedom. Now one faces the gallows and the other could spend the best years of her life behind bars.

Be their voice.

🚨#BREAKING: A mother is FURIOUS after a Pennsylvania town CRIMINALLY CHARGED her two little girls, ages 10 and 12, and dragged them into court...

...because a playground swing broke while they were spinning on it.

Yes, you read that right.

The two girls twisted the chains to get dizzy, the chain snapped, and the borough's response was CRIMINAL MSCHIEF CHARGES for a 10-year-old.

This is Springdale, Pennsylvania, just outside Pittsburgh.

On May 21st, a group of kids were playing at Veterans Memorial Park where two sat on the swing and the others twisted the chains up tight and let go, so the swing would spin them dizzy.

Every one of us did this as a kid... hundreds of times.

The chain broke. Nobody was hurt.

Two weeks later, a POLICE OFFICER showed up at Katie Huss's front door with SURVEILLANCE PHOTOS of the children on a swing.

The borough had split the repair bill among five kids.

$59 dollars each.

Three families paid up and their kids' charges disappeared.

Katie demanded more information:

"Show me the evidence my daughters did this on purpose and show me the swing was even inspected prior to this occuring."

She didn't pay and so her 10 and 12-year-old daughters were CHARGED WITH A CRIME.

Criminal mischief.

BY the way... under Pennsylvania's criminal code, that is a charge that requires INTENT.

The two little girls were terrified and had to sit in a courtroom while a police officer testified against them for "not using the swing properly."

Thankfully, the judge threw it out and found them not guilty.

It was CLEARLY an accident, not a crime.

...you would think it would end there, but it doesn't!!!

The borough is now threatening to sue this mother in CIVIL court over $180.

And Katie still hasn't been allowed to see the video they used against her children, it was shown to the lawyers, but not to the mom.

Nearly every single day, violent repeat offenders WALK OUT OF JAIL ALL THE TIME to prey on innocent people...
