So yeah - 20 yrs in the Coast Guard here

If a distress or a lost at sea call is made they’ll 9/10 send a small boat - especially if local authorities weren’t contacted first.

The closest station is Station Gulfport - so only 20miles - which by small boat ideally an hour. (used to be Station Pascagoula but that got shutter because of budget cuts)

So if there WAS a call to the Coast Guard- without question they would have showed up. Plus if there was radio chatter heard from local LE 1) the Stations OOD (Officer Of The Day) would have at least been told about it from a watch stander/comms watch or 2)LE would asked the Station was there a report made.
