This account started with me helping players find teams across Scotland — proper grassroots stuff.
I am rebranding to ‘From Grassroots to Gameplans’ — sharing coaching views, tactical insight and honest Scottish football chat from the levels where the game begins.
@MrBenGrant Only really works if you have someone playing off him in the pockets to pick up any scraps. No point him running about if no one backs him up to make use of the pressure any any forced errors from his presence
Honestly think something like this would have been able to get more points over the international break. Included some players not called up to squad but enough pace in there to cause problems going forward, striker unsure who to be fair so don’t grudge any picks there
Wouldn’t want to hang individuals out to dry but our goalkeeping department is light and I think a change would be welcome, I’d like to see McCracken given a shot at least, Kelly rarely plays, Bain possibly an option too but surely we could do better.
I get that Pocognoli likes a back 3 as part of his coaching identity, however the issue is Scotland struggles to have 2 top centre backs never mind 3, I think going back to basics playing our best players in their best position should be way forward, 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 for this.
I’m a firm believer in having fast wingers and balls played into dangerous areas to cause problems for defenders. Also play direct, get our best players on the pitch and on the ball more often than the opposition does, do that and we have a far greater chance of winning.
@Johnccam1965 You think this is due to board backing in transfer market his options are that limited or that he is just out of ideas and desperate to try get something to work?
Unsure what to make of the post match interview from Martin o Neill yesterday, I think he’s either just playing a game with his comments or he genuinely thinks there was not much between the two sides on the day.
@Graeme1872rfc This is why the Old Firm is so clear of many other derbies around the world, the passion and banter surrounding it is unrivalled. My mate is a Celtic fan and he thinks their period of dominance is over but I think it’s a bit early to say. I would expect them to spend in January.
The international break is the best time to change managers but I don’t see any managers coming in and changing that much without adding to squad which would be in January anyway.
I think they will stick with him, what are your thoughts? Will he stay or go?
Some people calling for his head and saying his days are numbered, but I think given his track record and what he achieved last season this would be an error.
If he does go who would replace him?
Personally I’d lay some blame at the board and squad ahead of him.
Individual quality barely been brought into the equation but a 30/30/30 split between the rest shows how close a game this is to call.
I’m thinking 4-2 Rangers -tinted glasses on.
I expect a Celtic response from last week, but whether they have enough to win remains to be seen.
What will have the biggest bearing on tomorrow's Old Firm match? ⚽👇🔘

I think if Celtic win they will bounce back and the pressure on the manager will ease again. If Rangers win or draw I’d expect them to go on a run til around at least Christmas possibly unbeaten. If Rangers lose however I’d expect mixed form from them again and Celtic to push on.

Personally I feel that the games on a knife edge. It’s upto Celtic to turn around their form and stop the rot from the previous two games. Rangers are well placed given recent form but Celtic have had time to adapt and prepare.
Squad quality is leading the poll again.
But any decent coach knows good players are only half the battle — the rest is how you set them up and how they respond.
What’s the one thing that can level the playing field when the squad isn’t as strong?
After yesterday’s Old Firm game in the League Cup, you could really see how much tactics shaped the match.
So following on from my post last week regarding what makes a good team — when a team delivers a tactical plan like that, who deserves more credit?
I find that often the tactical element comes into play more at the higher levels and this would not have as big a bearing at a lower level when there’s clear disparity on squad levels but the game yesterday was more of an even playing field for tactics to be able to be the edge.
