@D_The_Husband On point 4, a drill I have students do is to establish side control, then exhale slowly whilst relaxing their torso. This cues you to create a heavy downwards pressure, which can then be amplified by going on tip toes and lifting your knees slightly off the mat
Four points that are commonly overlooked:
1) Controlling inside position - the space between their armpit and their hip
2) Keeping their elbow off the mat
3) Releasing tension in your torso, which amplifies downwards pressure
4) Keeping control over their hips, to prevent them from re-guarding
