The Georgia College community gathered today to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Integrated Science Center while looking ahead to a new and innovative Interpretive Center at Andalusia. The Andalusia Interpretive Center is scheduled to open next summer.
We will be reopening for public tours on August 4, 2020!
What to expect when visiting the Mansion:

- Tour sizes are 7 person maximum per docent

#OTD in 1865, Governor Brown was arrested at the Governor’s Mansion in Milledgeville, Georgia. Brown was given thirty minutes to prepare to leave the Mansion before his trip to DC. After arriving in Washington, Brown was held at Carroll Prison.
#OTD 1801, Governor George Washington Towns is born in Wilkes County, GA. He was born George Washington Bonaparte Towns but dropped the “Bonaparte” from his name in the early 1830s

Happy #WorldBookDay! We have lots of books all over the Mansion. Some of our books even belonged to a Governor or someone in their family. Come and see them on tour sometime. We are open Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday 2 to 4 pm.
#OTD 1821, Governor Joseph Emerson Brown is born in Pickens District, SC. Brown served as governor of Georgia for eight years from 1857-1865. He was governor of Georgia during the US Civil War.
#OTD in 2005, The Old Governor's Mansion held its Grand Re-Opening Celebration. This was the culmination of five years of restoration work to restore the Mansion to its 1851 appearance. Here is a copy of the day's program.
#OTD 1833, Governor Thomas Howard Ruger is born in Lima, New York. He was appointed the provisional governor of Georgia in January 1868 by Major General George Meade after Governor Jenkins was removed from office. He served as provisional governor until June of 1868.
