‘‘Twas the night of the draft and the kids off to sleep. A thirty-three year tradition I continue to keep.

Stocked up on sweet tea with legal pad in my hand, I sit down to enjoy the NFL brand.

It starts with the boo as the fans get their wish to publicly declare what they think of commish.

Then the magical words we we’ve waited to hear “Chicago you’re on the clock”, the draft’s officially here.

I write down every pick and document with care as Mel Kiper critiques with his iconic hair.

Some picks are predictable and make sense as they’re made, but you can always count on a surprising trade.

While the game is evolving and draft strategies change, you can rely on a few things to remain the same.

The Jets fans will boo, bills mafia will descend, at some point Jerry will say the Cowboys are “all in”.

QB names will be called early and often while smart teams make sure their blind sides not forgotten.

Lockdown corners are a premium, WR’s a must as teams hope and pray that their picks not a bust.

Thanks to Mel, running backs now sit back and wait since so very few get his first round grade.

With Belichick gone, we’ll wait to hear which team will trade back stockpiling picks for next year.

Only time will tell who the big winners will be. But we’ll grade them out now and then wait to see.

While so much is unknown one thing is for sure, for my NFL blues, the draft is my cure!
