It’s #GreatOutdoorsMonth, which means more time outside and a little less time plugged in. Simple habits like using natural light, opening windows and spending more time outdoors can help reduce energy use at home. How are you spending more time outdoors this month?
June 7-13 is #NationalGardeningWeek. Before you pick out those new flowers and trees be sure to call 811 to request the location of buried utilities be marked with paint or flags. Hitting a buried line while digging can disrupt utility service or cause injury or death.
Before placing fire pits, furniture, tents, or lights, take a look up—and around. Keep all outdoor setups a safe distance from power lines to prevent hazards or outages. If you notice a line hanging low, call your local co-op so they can take a look and keep your summer safe.
Here's the truth: even brand-new homes can have gaps, air leaks or insulation issues that let heat slip out and drive energy use up. Simple steps like sealing drafts, checking insulation and monitoring your energy use can make a new home even more efficient and comfortable.
