China has consistently deployed more solar and wind than it has promised, beating its clean energy targets. It may be on path to peak its carbon emissions sooner than its pledge of 2030. Great piece at @CarbonBrief https://t.co/fkgg2jhVjh

Coral Reefs are a wave shield! 🌊🛡️
They have a hard jagged structure that absorbs up to 97% of wave energy!
Nearly 200 million people rely on Coral Reefs to calm their waters and protect 71,000 km of coastline against erosion and storm damage.

I took this photo in Bikini Atoll, 50 years after the last of many nuclear tests were conducted in the small island. Nature is resilient, even to our most destructive forces, and if given the chance it recovers. Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay!
Does the glow of corals act as a prey attractant? Small planktonic creatures (which are preyed upon by corals) are attracted to fluorescent cues creating a free buffet for glowing coral!

#corals are actually animals not plants - yet like plants, they need sunlight to grow!
That's why they thrive in shallow water - and that puts them at danger from human activities.
