Sliman Mansour (b. 1947, Birzeit) is a leading Palestinian artist whose work embodies heritage, identity, and resistance.
In 1973, he co-founded the League of Palestinian Artists, shaping the cultural front of resistance alongside peers like Nabil Anani and Issam Bader.

In 1976, Sliman Mansour participated in a significant exhibition titled “Art Exhibition by Artists in Occupied Palestine”, held in London aboard the Tattershall Castle yacht on the River Thames.
This event was among the first collective exhibitions in the Western hemisphere to focus on Palestinian art, showcasing works by prominent artists including Mansour, Nabil Anani, Issam Bader, Khalil Rayan, Leila Al-Shawa, Kamel Al-Mughanni, Isma’il Ashour, and Khalil Dadah.

Later in 1979, the three co-founded Gallery 79 in Ramallah, creating a key platform for Palestinian art locally and internationally. During the First Intifada, when flag colors were restricted, Mansour pioneered the use of earth and natural pigments.

Through depictions of fellahin, olive trees, and refugees, his work preserves memory, narrates struggle, and inspires generations of artists.

This is getting more unhinged by the day simply because it’s being allowed to happen. We’re talking here about the Palestinian village Umm al Kheir in Masafer Yatta, south Hebron hills—the very area featured in the Oscar winning film No Other Land.

Yesterday, settlers broke into the home of my friend Salem, vandalized the yard, and are now throwing a celebration right on his balcony under the protection of the occupation forces.

All the while, Salem’s family remains imprisoned inside their own home, as both the front entrance and the backyard have been declared a closed military zone for Palestinians. They aren’t even allowed to step outside to use the restroom.

Snapshot of daily reality under apartheid and ethnic cleansing, as the world carries on as usual—just as it did in Europe 85 years ago.

#DATOHISTORICO UN RECORDATORIO DE LA GRANDEZA DE MEXICO ‼️

Antes de 1978, fabricar insulina significaba triturar toneladas de páncreas de cerdos y vacas en mataderos. Se necesitaba el páncreas de unos 50 animales para mantener viva a una sola persona diabética durante un año. Era carísima, escasa y provocaba reacciones alérgicas graves.

En 1967, con solo 29 años, el científico mexicano Francisco Bolívar Zapata tuvo una idea que sonaba a ciencia ficción: meter la instrucción genética humana dentro de una bacteria y obligarla a fabricar insulina humana pura.

El reto era enorme: una bacteria se defiende de cualquier ADN extraño. Bolívar diseñó un "vehículo" microscópico de transporte genético, un anillo de ADN llamado plásmido pBR322 (las letras "BR" son un homenaje directo a Bolívar), capaz de colarse sin activar sus defensas.

Usaron la bacteria Escherichia coli como fábrica viviente. Le insertaron el gen humano de la insulina y la bacteria empezó a producir insulina 100% humana, de forma infinita y sin sacrificar un solo animal.

Fue la primera vez en la historia que se fabricó una proteína humana mediante ingeniería genética: el momento exacto en que nació la biotecnología moderna. Hoy, cada persona que se inyecta insulina para vivir debe ese líquido transparente, gracias a un cientifico mexicano.
