Their subjects were 8-26 years old. So at three different stages, they scanned peopleโs brains (MRIs), took their blood to find out their testosterone level, and had them fill out a survey about their puberty development. TMI in my opinion, but whatever.
Well, these scientist guys decided to test about 300 people at 3 different points over time to find out the answer. They came up with three explanations for why peopleโs brain structures were a certain size at any given points: age, stage of puberty, and testosterone level.
So thereโs all these mini regions in your brain (think about it like your brain is pizza and the different regions are a bunch of different toppings). When you go through puberty, the size of those brain regions (toppings) can either grow or shrink.
Ever wonder what happens to your brain during puberty? Well, same. Like all the time. And these really cool peeps (โWierenga et. alโ) clearly felt the same cause they published a paper about it in 2018.
