That's what they're saying now, but I think they're just backpedaling. They already sent two emails from that address last month (Jan 24 and Jan 26) asking Feds to reply "yes" if they received it. So they already know who checks their email and who really exists.

Federal workers take IT security training every year. They are taught not to respond to unsigned emails from outside of their agency. They are especially taught not to share internal information (what they do and who their supervisors are) in response to random emails from outside their agency.

Like the military, the Federal government respects chain-of-command. Federal workers are accountable to their immediate supervisors and to their chain of command. They are not accountable to random, unsigned emails from agencies (OPM) to whom they do not report.

That's why Secretary Hegseth, Director Patel, and many other Trump appointees directed their people not to respond to the email.

If you worked for Grumman should you be fired for ignoring an unsigned email from Boeing asking you what you did last week?

Same thing here. Most Federal workers don't work for OPM, and none of them work for Elon Musk. Only their chain of command has the authority to assign them work or to hold them accountable for their performance.

1) Not all federal employees have desk jobs. Many work outside, or in shops, or parts depots, etc., and many don't even have government-issued computers.

2) Those that do have desk jobs and government-issued computers are trained every year on IT security. As part of that training they are instructed never to reply to unsigned emails from outside their agency. They especially don't divulge internal information (like what they do and who their manager is) to unsigned emails from outside their agency.

3) The Federal government, like the military, respects chain-of-command. Except for the actual employees of OPM, Federal employees don't work for OPM, and they don't report to OPM. They do what they are told to do by those who are above them in the chain-of-command. They don't take work assignments from other agencies.

This is an easy question to answer. "I don't know."

It's not a matter of probabilities, or of how many planets are capable of sustaining life, or anything like that. It depends entirely on whether God decided to create alien life. If he did, then it exists. If he didn't, then it doesn't. And he didn't tell us one way or the other.
