His name was Barrett Walsh. His nickname was “Bear.”

He was 2 years old.

Now, according to prosecutors, his own mother is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with his death.

And there is one detail I cannot get past.

Prosecutors say Corie Walsh had become intensely invested in the Lindsay Clancy trial and was discussing the case with friends just hours before Barrett was found dead.

The similarities are chilling.

We have spent so much time discussing the mothers in these cases—their mental health, their struggles, their diagnoses, their defenses—that sometimes it feels like the children become an afterthought.

They should NEVER be the afterthought.

Look at his face.

His name was Barrett “Bear” Walsh.

He had a life that mattered. A future that mattered. And whatever eventually happens in a courtroom, he deserves to be remembered as more than a footnote in his mother's story.

1 year ago today Iryna Zarutska was brutally murdered on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Her family is now filing a lawsuit in order to hold others accountable for the lack of justice for their daughter.

I remember during COVID when my late husband, a family practice doctor, called in a prescription to CVS and the pharmacist refused to fill it.
