PRINCESS ELIZABETH BAGAYA
* Born in 1936 in Kabarole, she is the daughter of the late King of Tooro, Omukama George Rukidi III, and Queen Kezia.
* She was the first East African woman to graduate with a law degree from the University of Cambridge (1962) and the first to be called to the English Bar as a barrister (1965).
* Returning to Uganda, she became the first woman admitted to the Ugandan Bar in 1966.
* After traditional kingdoms were abolished by Milton Obote in 1966, she fled to London, where she became a globally renowned supermodel, signing with the Ford Agency and making history as the first Black model to appear on the cover of Harper's Bazaar.

* Her husband died suddenly in a fatal plane crash in December 1986 at just 32 years old.
* Devastated by his death, she stepped away from her role as Uganda’s Ambassador to the United States in 1988 to dedicate her life to global charity work, never remarrying or having children.
* She later returned to national diplomacy, serving as Uganda’s Ambassador to Germany, the Vatican, and High Commissioner to Nigeria.
* When traditional kingdoms were restored and her brother King Patrick Kaboyo VII passed away in 1995, she became a principal regent and official guardian to her toddler nephew, King Oyo.
* Today, at 90 years old, she remains a highly respected pillar of the Tooro Kingdom.
KING OYO - IMPACT
Even in his death, King OYO is impactful, Fortportal and surrounding towns will fill to capacity during his burial. Tourism impact!
Am told the road to Fortportal is a beehive, construction efforts have gone up 10 times right now. Impact!
KING OYO did one of the most successful documentaries on the RWENZORI RANGES like you will read below! Impact !
The documentary associated with King Oyo (Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro Kingdom) is the short film Rwenzori: The Source of Life (also referred to as King Oyo:
Royal Rwenzori Mountain Expedition). It follows his 10-day 2022 expedition to Margherita Peak (5,109 m), the highest point in the Rwenzori Mountains and in Uganda, and focuses on climate change, melting glaciers, conservation, and promoting sustainable mountain tourism. It was a joint project of UNDP Uganda, the Uganda Tourism Board, and Tooro Kingdom.
It received notable recognition in tourism and documentary film circles rather than becoming a mass-market hit. It won multiple international awards, including a Gold Trophy at the 2023 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards, placement in the US International Awards (tourism products), a top-5 / third-place finish in the Tourism Products category at the 2023 World Tourism Film Awards in Valencia, and recognition at ART & TUR. Sources describe it as a four- or five-time award winner.2
It premiered first in the United States (California), then in Fort Portal and at a Kampala premiere at the International University of East Africa in late 2023. Related events drew large local crowds.
It was later added to the inflight entertainment on Brussels Airlines long-haul flights as a Destination Uganda promotion. Tourism officials publicly credited it (along with other efforts) with helping post-COVID recovery in Uganda’s tourism sector and increased interest in it was well-regarded and effective as a promotional and advocacy film—especially in tourism, conservation, and official circles, Its main impact was awards prestige, targeted screenings, and use in destination marketing.
When a country spends huge funds for providing better infrastructure, rather than launching wars.

IS UGANDA’S EDUCATION WORTH IT?
Parents are selling land just to pay school fees.
Graduates are holding degrees but walking on the streets jobless.
And the nation is slowly losing hope in education.
A MESSAGE TO THE GOVERNMENT OF UGANDA:
EDUCATION MUST BE FREE FOR ITS CITIZENS
and nation builders. Uganda is not poor in talent, our youth are intelligent, our families are resilient, our nation is full of visible potential and what we need now is the courage to invest fully in that potential. Let education become a gift from the nation to its citizens and
