Getting the right information is important for making decisions particularly about your health.

What do you know about Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and Cervical cancer?

Not all HPV infections would eventually lead to cervical cancer.

However high risk HPV (about 14 of them) infections particularly HPV 16, 18 are most commonly associated with cervical cancer.

The good news is that cervical cancer is preventable through
vaccination, screening and treatment.

For optimal protection, it is recommended that boys and girls between the ages of 11 - 12 should receive the HPV vaccine.

1. Human papilloma virus (HPV) which causes cervical cancer can only be detected by cervical screening.

2. Cervical screening can help detect abnormal changes before it progresses to cancer. HPV infections typically don’t have noticeable symptoms; some HPV infections can cause genital warts but the high risk strains don’t show any symptoms. You can feel okay and have HPV.

2. Go with someone you can trust: having a cervical screening can be scary but choosing to go with a friend or anyone else can help you feel more relaxed.

3. You can ask for a woman to do the test.
