Goooooooooood morning! An Anticyclone, which is the opposite of a Cyclone or storm system, is intensifying over the eastern United States. These anticyclones form aloft, generally 10,000 to 25,000 feet above us, and when they develop over land, they create heat waves. I call them "Heat Wave Creating Machines."
The current developing anticyclone will weaken over the holiday weekend and then is forecast to redevelop over the western United States in around ten days. At this point, it does not appear likely to build directly over Kansas City, which means additional rain chances may continue to show up over the next couple of weeks.
Summer is settling in, but the pattern still favors periodic thunderstorm complexes and opportunities for more beneficial rainfall across the central Plains and Midwest. ๐ฆ๏ธ๐ฝ๐ฉ๏ธ
Gooooooooood evening! Can you believe we are already halfway through 2026?
Here are some year-to-date rainfall totals ending today, with Kansas City leading the way at nearly 28 inches of rain so far this year! It has been a very wet year across parts of the central U.S.
Meanwhile, it has been a bit frustrating for me here in Colorado. Just look at the difference between Kansas City with 27.73" of rain and Denver with only 4.65". Wow!
As we head into the second half of the year, I'm also offering a special Fourth of July discount on the Weather 20/20 Intelligence Report, which farmers, businesses, and weather enthusiasts use to make more informed and often profitable decisions.

HOLY CRAP! A storm in South Dakota is producing winds up to 131 miles per hour. That is nearly the equivalent of an EF3 tornado (136mph) That is absolutely ridiculous.
This also includes lemon sized hail, which will produce devastating property and crop damage at wind speeds like this. If you know anyone in the path of this, tell them to stay weather aware. The storm is just southwest of Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Gooooooooood morning! โ๏ธ๐บ๐ธ
It is the beginning of the long Fourth of July week! Here is one of the temperature forecasts valid at 6 PM Mountain Time on Saturday, July 4th. The cool pocket over Nebraska is being caused by a thunderstorm complex, while most of the nation looks dry for Independence Day.
In Kansas City, the heat looks pretty typical for early July. However, it may feel a bit more uncomfortable because everything is so green, the ground is so wet, and the dew points are high, adding extra humidity to the air.
As always, we'll continue to fine-tune the forecast throughout the week as New Data comes in. Have a fantastic start to your holiday week! ๐บ๐ธ๐ค๏ธ๐
Goooooooood morning! It's time to get up. We have to hit the road and head back to Colorado! it will be hot and humid this week in KC, and hot and not humid in Golden, CO. A heat wave in KC is when there are three consecutive days of 95ยฐ or hotter. It may reach 95ยฐ by the 4th of July! We will check later today when we get back to Colorado. We hope you have a great Sunday!
A serious and still-escalating wildfire outbreak is now underway across interior West, and has today expanded beyond NV & UT into western CO & AZ/NM. Extreme fire behavior and rapid spread is widespread; adverse conditions expected for 7+ days. #UTwx#COwx#AZwx#NMwx [Thread]
The Boise, Idaho area was hit with one of the worst summer storms ever recorded yesterday evening. Some areas had more than 8 inches of hail in less than an hour.
Gooooooooood morning! This doesnโt quite look like summer in KC! A huge heat up is in the forecast beginning this weekend. I hope to see you around KC today. This is a Timelapse from our room! @pjkc55 Pam, the forecast for Kansas City is for a summer storm to move across between now and Friday with 1-4 inches of rain possible. Then, a big warm up for Independence Day!
Goooooooooood afternoon! I just spent the past few hours writing up the Weather 20/20 Intelligence Report. For farmers I discussed the big pollination period ahead and the outlook from the LRC Model for the next two months, and I also discussed the forecast for a stormy end of the week and then the heat building in for the 4th of July. Here is the link to the report: https://t.co/tL4vdgIYdi
Goooooooooooood morning! Get ready for some more rain in the next three days. Rain, Cool Air, Then Summer Heat. Another 1โ4 inches of rain is likely across the Kansas City area by Friday as a summer storm system moves through the region.
Kansas City has already received 27.21" of rain this year, which is nearly 9 inches above average. By comparison, Denver (4.13") and North Platte (4.24") have received only about 8 inches of rain combined for the entire year.
The incoming storm system will also bring an unusually cool day for late June across parts of the Plains and Midwest, with afternoon temperatures staying in the 60s and 70s in some locations, maybe even in the 50s in a few spots of Nebraska. But don't get too comfortable. The Weather 20/20 forecast continues to indicate a significant warm-up heading into the July 4th holiday period, with summer heat expanding northward as the current storm track shifts away.
A wet, cool finish to June may be setting the stage for a much hotter start to July.
