Children running after ice cream vans in the 1960s were often handed tiny nuggets of dry ice to pop into their mouths, where it bubbled and fizzed. They were unaware of possible ice burns.

Dry ice is the solid form of CO₂. It is used as a crucial industrial coolant, maintaining an icy temperature of -78.5C. Because it sublimes directly from solid to gas without melting into liquid, it leaves no wet mess behind.

CO₂ was recognised for its use in refrigeration, fire suppression and beverage carbonation. This unique property makes it invaluable for preserving frozen foods, shipping meats and ice cream, and safely transporting temperature-sensitive vaccines, blood samples and biological tissues.

CO₂ remains an indispensable global substance, driving photosynthesis, supporting the basis of all life, and the primary driver of biology.

However, it was included in the rise of modern climate rhetoric. Recent warming has been remarkably modest. Average global temperatures have risen only 1.4C in the 250 years since the start of the Industrial Revolution, following the end of the Little Ice Age.

The calculated global average temperature of 15C remains several degrees colder than long-term historical biological baselines of 18C-26C.

From a childhood treat beside an ice cream van to a foundational industrial workhorse, CO₂ has spent far more time serving humanity than being a villain.

China's renewable expansion receives endless Western applause. Its coal expansion, however, gets far less attention.

At the start of 2026, China had 1,207 operating coal-fired power stations.

In 2025 alone, it added 78 GW of coal capacity, the most in a decade, and began building another 83 GW, with a record 161 GW of projects either proposed or revived.

China consumed more than 4.9 billion tons of coal during 2025 -- which is 56% of the global total.

One country burned more coal than the rest of the world combined -- and green activists applaud it.

China is building wind and solar, yes, but it is not gambling its industrial economy on intermittent power.

AI is the next industrial age, but it requires colossal quantities of dependable electricity.

China is securing this mainly via coal, gas and nuclear.

Meanwhile, Net Zero governments are closing reliable power stations, raising energy costs and driving industry east.

Nations that continue sacrificing power on the altar of Net Zero will not lead the AI revolution. They will watch the future being built elsewhere.

Europe's push for Net Zero has not eliminated industrial emissions, it has merely exported them.

High energy prices and carbon costs push factories, investment and well-paid jobs out of Europe, but the exact same goods are manufactured abroad and then shipped back.

Worse still, Chinese-made solar panels actually emit 70% more manufacturing emissions than EU-made panels, according to a German report.

Chinese aluminum is roughly three times as carbon-intensive. Chinese ammonia production emits almost twice as much CO2. And cars manufactured in China and shipped to Europe emit 69% more.

So, China gets the factories, jobs and investment. Europe on paper gets to report lower domestic emissions. But the atmosphere actually gets more CO2 pumped into it.

This is not decarbonization clearly.
It is deindustrialization of the West.
