@RoizMichael83 1.h5 Rg7 2.Rd8 Rg8 3.Rd7+ Kh6 4.Bd2+ wind
So maybe 1...Kh6 is a better try.
It's better to push pawns on white squares anyway to avoid blocades (1.g5? Kg6 for example).
@RoizMichael83 1...Qxe3 2.Qxe3 d1Q 3.Qxe4+ seems to be insufficient for a win but
1...f2! 2.Bxf2 Qh5+ followed by d1Q looks rather simple.
If 2.Bxg5 f1Q+ and black will be a queen up.
@RoizMichael83 It is amazing how the c8-h3 diagonal is found too short of a square for the bishop. Différent tricks happening after Kd8 in every case. Wonderful calculating exercises. I save it for my students
@GMJacobAagaard 1.e5+ Nxe5 (1...Ke7 2.Qg5+ with a winning attack) 2.Qg5+ Kg7 3.Rxh8 Qxh8 (3...Kxh8 4.Rd8 wind the queen) 4.Nxe5 a pawn up and a winning position.
@chesscoachandra I must add a very important thing : in case of axb4, white must wait for the black king to be on e8 to push b6, in order to have b6 cxb6 c7 Bxc7 Kxc7 with threats on both pawns.
@chesscoachandra I enjoyed studying it, thanks.
Not a Fortress I guess : you can play Ne6 via b8, a6, b4. If black takes the knight on b4, the only defense is Be7, Kd8, running to b8. But if you wait for the black king to be on f8, you outrun it.
@Star_azym Actually it is not, but you need to break a couple of strong positions in order to achieve the win. If i find time for it, I'll explain it some day
Fortress or not Fortress ?
One of my best student (approaching 2200F rating) showed me this position (coming from a Blitz game) and asked whether White was winning or not.
2 hours of hard thinking and i finally had my answer. Computers won't help much.
White to play

Another position from the last Youth Championship I went to with my students.
Black to play : White just sacrificed a knight on c4. What happened now ?

Congratulation to Paul Nguyen who won the regional U16 championship with 8/9 and a 2227 performance.
Just like Mathis, he started chess 2 and a half years ago and is now 2100+
Very proud of my pupils.

As someone asked, I may add that 1.Rxh5 Qe4 2.Rhh8 Rxd2 3.Rd8+ Kc6 doesn't help :
4.Rc8+ allows 4...Kxd6
4.Kxd2 Qg2+ and black can play for a win. The d6 pawn can only be pushed to d7.
Youth championship in Paris, I'll post some of the interesting positions my students get over the board.
White to play : a rook up, but really threatened. How to dodge the bullet and win ?
