The GenOmics And Life Stories (GOALS) group studies genomic and environmental effects on the achievement of personal goals and development of personal identity.
Research Update: As part of a larger project investigating the impact of migration on first- and second-generation South Asian Muslims in the UK, @salmaiddy is currently conducting a thematic analysis of the life-story interviews of 45 (adult) children of migrants.
Qualitative research question: How many interviews is considered a good/respectable sample size? I know that it all depends on the quality of the data and saturation of themes, but hit me with some numbers that come to mind!

@DeptEdYork Finally, here's @RosieBawn, our only third year, presenting the fruits of two years' hard labour testing Year 10s, Year 11s and HE students around the country and exploring questions around theory of mind and vocational development.
@DeptEdYork Here's @SuziDundas, a second year who has already assembled a fantastic dataset on young people's 'possible future selves' and their approaches to vocational development.
@DeptEdYork Next up - well not really because these tweets are not in order - was @Deedef68 who is ready to go with her RCT of a P4C intervention focused on children's perceptions of SEN labels. Can't wait to see the data and the findings!
@DeptEdYork And this is @DoweySarah showing findings from her acceptability study of metacognitive approaches in English literature classes (in a very lovely chart). Blazing a trail by bringing metacognition to Macbeth.
@DeptEdYork Here's second year PhD student @salmaiddy presenting her work to date on migrant voices, and generating interesting discussions among the group about challenges in research design - especially for those who see the benefits of both quant and qual research.
GOALS lab will be 1 yr old next month & we're getting together for our 1st AGM tomorrow. Can't wait to hear research talks on careers education, possible future selves, genetics & labelling, migrant identity and metacognition in English literature; & to plan 2019-20 @DeptEdYork
Are you an Instagram user? Can you spare 10 minutes to help our @GOALS_York intern, @isobeljkthomson gather data on age differences in Instagram use and wellbeing for her MSc dissertation? @suejanea? @asburyandasbury?
