The Army No. 1 Band played at 6 Citizenship Ceremonies on Monday and Tuesday, which welcomed nearly 6,000 new Irish Citizens! Congratulations to all!

Over the last few days the CISM regional cross country championships took place in Belgium! In ideal weather conditions in Schaffen Belgium, the Irish mens and womens team both had fantastic individual and team results!

Capt Elizabeth Carr stretched the race from the start and was rewarded with a fantastic 3rd place overall in a field of nearly 100 athletes. Pte Laoighse Styles and Pte Louise Nolan battled throughout and finished 11th and 13th overall. This ensured the Irish team finished second overall behind the dominant French team and ahead of the hosts Belgium.

In the mens event Pte Josh O'Sullivan Hourihan finished 5th place overall after mixing with the leading group early on. Pte Nathan Oleary finished very strong in 10th place with Comdt James Ledingham 15th and Pte Dave Redmond in 16th with Cpl Stephen Butler on his international debut finished 31st. The above team combined to finish 3rd team behind a strong French and Belgian teams. A field of over 900 athletes competed in the mens event!

Well done to both teams!

This week, the 99th Cadet Class completed a Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) exercise in Marino Point, Cork.

Operating within urban areas can be a complex task which tested the Cadets situational awareness,tactical proficiency and command and control.

Welcome home to the troops of the 122nd Infantry Battalion. After a 6 month tour of duty in Lebanon our personnel are safely back on Irish soil! Enjoy your time off and have a great Christmas!

In February 1934, the accidental death of young Lieutenant Daniel Davis (Artillery Corps), took place at the Curragh Camp. The recently commissioned officer was exercising a horse on the Curragh plains when the accident took place.
