Official account for the John Felice Rome Center, the Rome campus of Loyola University Chicago. We believe study abroad is the jumping point to see the world.
Today, January 31, marks the 14th anniversary of the passing of John Felice. As we note the passing of another year since Felice's death, we celebrate the impact John and his vision continue to have in all we do.
Benvenuto al #JFRC, Marco! Marco is a personal trainer who will take care of our students this semester, helping with the Movi-Mente Project. Marco’s expertise brings a movement experience with the goal of wellbeing in mind. We’re excited to welcome him to the JFRC squadra!
#JFRC alumnus William Mahoney (‘74) then and now! As part of our Human Rights lecture series, Mr. Mahoney spoke on climate change and environmental justice. He serves as an Emeritus Chair on the Chicago Committee for The Think Tank Human Rights Watch.
#JFRC students and staff/faculty of @LoyolaAnd toured the Vatican Gardens with an exceptional guide: Rafael Tornini, Head of Gardens and Environmental Team of the Vatican. The gardens are a great example of the integration of history, design, and sustainable land management.
#JFRC minister, Fr. David McCallum, SJ, celebrated a Monday morning mass with President Biden on his last day in Rome. The G20 nations met in Rome to discuss limiting global warming. Fr. McCallum is assisting the JFRC as our campus minister. We are lucky to have Fr. David!
Our colleague Erika Lozano is visiting today the @GOJFRC of @LoyolaChicago in Rome. She met the Director, Todd Waller, and our students who are there thanks to the US/Europe Business Double Degree. So happy to meet our international friends face to face again!
While fall may be time to harvest apples back in the States, our #JFRC Italian Culture: Food and Wine students took their class to the @lortodialberico to harvest and crush grapes! Photos courtesy of Prof. Simari.
Our campus, with new additions designed by architect @ignazio_lo_manto, is featured in the 2021’s Roma Open House. Mentioned in @vanityfairitalia: “here, the old and new coexist in harmony, while retaining their own identities.” We’re proud of our beautiful home on Monte Mario!
"I will be favorable to you in Rome," were the words that Ignatius of Loyola received in a fall 1537 vision. During the #JFRC Mass of the Holy Spirit, Fr. David McCallum, SJ, pointed to the relevance of those words and invited students to make the most out of their semester!
Happy faces and great shared moments during the New Student Orientation visit to Castel Gandolfo! #JFRC students had the opportunity to visit the Apostolic Palace and the estate's picturesque gardens.
So much great energy at the #JFRC! The first Fall 2021 New Student Orientation Weekend included welcome activities, informational meetings, celebratory gatherings, and moments for reflection. More to come!
Yesterday's #JFRC Human Rights Night keynote address, "A Lens Toward Social Justice," shed light on the plight of the oppressed through the powerful photo work of Francesco Bellina. Bellina presented his "Oriri" photo project to a full audience.
We look forward to photojournalist Francesco Bellina's #JFRC Human Rights Night keynote address, "A Lens Toward Social Justice". Bellina's work has appeared in major international media, raising social consciousness in Italy and beyond.
Beginning the semester on a sweet note! After students moved in earlier today, sharing dinner in the neighborhood was a great way to socialize and get a taste of Italian culture. Also, get a taste of delicious food, including tiramisù. Benvenuti, #JFRC students!
Today, on his birth anniversary, we remember Rome Center founder, John P. Felice. Felice, who is pictured in this archive photo, dedicated many years of his life to the Rome Center and has been a mentor to many.
His influence is making an impact to this day.
Fall 2021 #JFRC classes begin today! After starting online, they will continue in person once students get to campus in September.
We wish students a great start to this semester. Auguri!

Today is a national holiday in Italy, Ferragosto! On this Feast of the Assumption, many Romans travel to nearby beaches or to the mountains, ready to relax and enjoy a festive lunch.
