Supreme Court Stupidity
The Supreme Court is about to engage in the most idiotic move the justices have ever made. Two Supreme Court justices are about to testify before Congress. They want more money for security. The members of Congress will likely not learn anything new about security and the impact on the budget. The members will likely use this occasion to grandstand and make statements about various court decisions. They will likely try to embarrass the justices.
The Supreme Court will not necessarily get any more money for security than it would’ve gotten otherwise, but it will lessen the statue of the Supreme Court and hurt the respect it needs to continue its work.
The request for additional funds should have been made by the US Marshall Service. They are responsible for Supreme Court security and they have the information Congress needs.
The Supreme Court relies on its stature alone to enforce its decisions. It does not have an army, and it has no power other than its respect. Appearing before Congress for a typical humiliation session, the method used by Congress for its hearings, will compromise the Supreme Court unnecessarily. It is not good for our country. If the court loses respect, the nation will lose the Supreme Court.
Nothing new. Luddites did it in England at the beginning of the industrial revolution. When automobiles first went into use, some drivers had to have a lantern holder running in front to warn the horses. The people who welcomed technology or“progress“ were called “progressives.” It is interesting that the new Luddites are today called “ progressives”. It is an example of the destruction of language and lack of understanding of history.
It is Bastille Day, July 14. But no one cares.
Iranian men and women (and perhaps children) are rotting in Iran’s Evin prison awaiting their death.
Americans are concerned about the price of gas. The French are finding new ways to hate Jews (as are some Americans). But on the anniversary of the day the citizens of France armed themselves for freedom and broke into the King’s hated prison, making prisoners free once again, no one seems to notice and no one seems to care.
Please care for the athletes and the ordinary people who have been hanged by the Iranian regime. Gays should remember the imprisonment and death of their comrades at the hands of radical Islam. Christians should remember an old Catholic woman currently in an Iranian prison whose only crime is worshiping Jesus. Remember the 50,000 unarmed civilians shot down in the street by their governmen
There was no genocide in Gaza. Iran, spearheaded by their Ayatollah, is executing civilians daily
Pray for all prisoners on Bastille Day.
To the citizens of Iran:“Armon vous cityons. Formez batailions.”
Don’t wait for the Americans or the Israelis. In the American Revolution, the French only helped at the end. It is up to the citizens to form their committees in secret, Do what needs to be done in the middle of the night and seize your freedom. If it results in a Napoleon or even a Shah, it will be better than an Ayatollah.
Beware! Hitler comparison!
But it has nothing to do with fascism or the hatred of Jews or anything else with which most people associate Adolf Hitler.
One big reason why Germany lost World War II was because Adolf Hitler used his military knowledge as a World War I corporal to decide the conduct of the war. This included a decision to attack Russia in the winter and deploy his tanks such that they were unavailable at Normandy.
Donald Trump is doing the same thing. He is running the Iran war based on his strategy. He goes from an all out war to a negotiation and from a right to free passage over the Strait and bombing in response to a policy charging a 20% toll.
A President may be a commander-in-chief, but he needs to defer to his military about how to win a war. And if his military says he cannot “win.,” then he should direct that
the nation not engage or disengage immediately.
Presidents are not generals. They are properly given the designation of commanders-in-chief for the purpose of assuring that the excesses of the military seen in other countries do not happen in the US. Civilian control of the military does not mean design and daily execution of war strategy.
The American people need to know what needs to be done to assure “victory.” If there cannot be victory, then there needs to be withdrawal. “There is no Substitute for victory.”
And what is “ victory”? Your country and it’s Army can go where it wants in the former enemy controlled area and not get shot.
The news media is lazy: In order to know whether the Strait of Hormuz is open, we need to know not just the number
of ships crossing but on which side they cross. In order to know who controls the Strait we need to know how many ships are crossing on the Omani and how many on Iran’s side.
Trump is not doing the bidding of Israel or Netanyahu. Israel wants Trump to destroy Iran. Trump is doing the bidding of Oman and the Sultan of Oman. The Sultan wants to settle the problem with Iran and The Strait by creating one toll route controlled by Iran on its side and one free route on the Omani side of The Strait. (which will probably be converted to a toll road as soon as the United States leaves the area of The Strait.) Trump, Oman and various Arab of interests will determine the future of this war, not Israel or Netanyahu.
Oh, and did I mention that Oman gives great aid to terrorists wishing destroy Israel?
The antisemitism of the left creates a blindness to everything that doesn’t fit their narrative of placing the blame for everything possible on the Jews. (Everything else they blame on Trump.)
@smerconish Bombs will do no better than they did in North Vietnam. Americans will not tolerate boots. The war needs to be a 1953 CIA war with the assistance of the Mossad. A kinetic war cannot be won.
@EWErickson You said you missed the televising of the Boston Pops. Tonight, Nashville did a televised version of the 1812 overture to fireworks which was televised with Ryan Seacrest on ABC and Disney They did not have a cannon, but was a great substitute for the Boston Pops.
Special Treatment? When an old guy inexplicably swerves into an accident and blows 0 alcohol on PAS, cop requires a blood test for even prescription drugs. DUI means “ driving under the influence of ‘ alcohol OR drugs’” Prescription drugs = DUI too
From Fox News:
@BillHemmer Wrong! The make or break race for the control of Congress is North Carolina between Cooper and Whatley. Unless Whatley comes alive, this will be a flip with much more certainty than Maine
@EWErickson The problem: not Supreme Court keeping the policy. The problem: they base ruling only on14th amendment not legislation interpreting 14th amendment. Now impossible to change without a constitutional amendment. Could have given it to Congress and made it easier to amend.
@MendlovitzMark Democrats nor the Republicans understand that the Supreme Court is truly an independent branch. Franklin Roosevelt had to learnt that too. There is a lust for power as opposed to a commitment to principle on both sides. Yet, I fear this is more embedded in the Democrats.
@EWErickson Ayatollah to President Trump: “I read your book. ‘The winner of the negotiation is the one willing to walk off the table.’ Iran is willing to do that. You are not. Get ready for more American humiliation.”,
Ayatollah to President Trump: “I read your book. ‘The winner of the negotiation is the one willing to walk off the table.’ Iran is willing to do that. You are not. Get ready for more American humiliation.”,
@EWErickson In the history of air warfare, no country ever won a war by air alone (see Germany v.Britain and US v. North Vietnam) If you know you cannot invade do not go to war. Let the CIA and Mossad do what it can. It worked in 1953 in Iran and later in Indonesia and Chile.
