Successful Launch of Speak Up for a Cleaner Southall
This morning, we were delighted to launch the first of our monthly Southall Community Clean-Up events as part of the Speak Up for a Cleaner Southall project.
Residents and volunteers came together to help improve the local environment, collecting numerous bags of litter and showing a fantastic commitment to community action — even in the wet weather.
This marks the beginning of a new monthly clean-up programme that will encourage more residents to take ownership of their local streets, promote environmental responsibility, and help create cleaner, greener and safer public spaces for everyone in Southall.
A huge thank you to everyone who turned out and helped make the launch such a success. Your enthusiasm, teamwork and dedication show exactly what can be achieved when a community pulls together.
We look forward to welcoming even more residents to future events.

As part of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, GOS&D joined @MindFood for a creative, nature-based wellbeing session with our ESOL learners.
The theme #MindYourLanguage reminded us that wellbeing is rooted in language, trust, culture, belonging and community connection.
Proud to be part of the GNP Connected Communities consortium.

Today we welcomed London School of Economics, LSE Housing and Communities to GOS&D for fieldwork with ESOL learners living in social housing.
The session explored language and cultural barriers in understanding tenancy rights, communicating with landlords and accessing support.
Proud to support this work with our multilingual facilitators and trusted community space.
Research must listen, respect lived experience and close the feedback loop.

Big win for Ealing residents today at the Ealing Citizens Pre-Election Accountability Assembly.
Candidates from the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties have all publicly committed to support the Five Basics for Temporary Accommodation if elected in May.
This is a major step forward for families living in temporary accommodation — and proof that when residents organise, speak up and stand together, change happens.
The Five Basics are simple, fair and necessary:
✔️ Cooking facilities
✔️ Laundry access
✔️ Wi-Fi
✔️ Secure storage
✔️ Clear information
These are not luxuries. They are the minimum standards every family deserves for dignity, wellbeing and stability.
At the event, some of the residents in temporary accommodation who have been supported by GOS&D were present and bravely shared their lived experiences of life in TA, helping decision-makers hear directly from those most affected.
GOS&D also distributed information about our new Dignity in Temporary Accommodation project, supporting residents in Ealing and Hounslow to strengthen voice, shape policy and drive lasting change.
Today was about commitments. After the election, it must be about delivery. We will be holding all parties to their word.

How long could you live without these five basics?
Somewhere to cook. A way to wash clothes. WiFi. Safe storage. Clear information about your situation.
For many thousands of Londoners living in temporary accommodation, this is the reality, for months and too often, for years.
How are you meant to rebuild your life when you can't cook a proper meal for your child, or get onto the internet?
We're proud to support the Fix the Five Basics campaign, which calls on councils to change this.
The campaign was built by people with lived experience of temporary accommodation, and it's already working. From new laundry facilities in hostels in Wandsworth to free pre-paid Data Sim Cards for homeless households in Greenwich, boroughs are already making changes to improve conditions for everyone in TA.
In May, every London borough will host full council elections. This is an important moment to share our campaign with candidates, and ask them to take action if they are elected.
Watch the new video to hear from people who've experienced this firsthand, and email candidates in your area to call for action: https://t.co/PCjjA8bqXd
It's time to fix the five basics. Now. @trustforlondon@_EalingNews@EalingCouncil

GOS&D End-of-Year Celebration – Thank You to Our Communities
We recently held our End-of-Year Celebration at our Southall Resource Centre, celebrating the achievements, progress, and resilience of our learners, volunteers, and community members.
The celebrations also took place across West Ealing, Greenford, Northolt, and Perivale, allowing us to reach and recognise people in different neighbourhoods where our work is delivered.
It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the year, and thank everyone who has been part of our journey – from participants and volunteers to staff and partners.
We are incredibly proud of our communities and look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.

Digital Inclusion Device Distribution
We are proud to have distributed 60 smartphones to members of our local communities who previously had no device, or whose devices were no longer working.
This support was delivered as part of our Digital Inclusion programme, helping people stay connected to essential services, family, learning, and employment opportunities.
The devices were provided through the National Device Bank, powered by Good Things Foundation, which refurbishes laptops, mobile phones, and tablets and makes them available to individuals who would otherwise be digitally excluded.
Access to a working device is no longer a luxury – it is a necessity. We are grateful to our partners and funders for helping us bridge the digital divide and support our communities to thrive.

HDRC Away Day at the W13 Impact Hub, 1 Bayham Road London W13 0TQ.
Yesterday we hosted the annual HDRC Away Day at the W13 Impact Hub — a brilliant opportunity to bring together partners from Ealing Council, academia, and the community sector.
GOSAD is part of the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC), led by the London Borough of Ealing, which is building a strong research culture within the council so decisions are shaped by real evidence.
A big thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and shared insights.
